ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY

Dr. Harry Portnoy has returned home after attending the
medical sessions of the International Medical Assembly in Chicago.
Mr. and Mrs. Lou Kroll of the Wilshire Hotel, accompanied
by Mrs. Charles H. Goldman of 2916 Glendale, left for Buffalo, N. Y.
for a short stay. They will be entertained by the cast of the stage
production "Sons of Fun" in which Mr. and Mrs. Kroll's daughter,
Patricia, is playing.
Miss Eveleen Ethel Budnitzky of Webb Ave. has left to resume
her studies as a sophomore at the University of Michigan at Ann
Arbor.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel N. Heyman of • 4031 Glendale Ave. will
be at home Sunday, Nov. 5, in honor of their nephew, Pfc. Harold
Karpel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Karpel of 9755 Broadstreet,
who has just returned home after participating in the European
theater of operations for 34 months. Relatives and friends are in-
vited. No cards.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Brody of Muirland Ave. are in New York
on a shopping tour and are guests for a week at the Waldorf Astoria
Hotel.
In celebration of the recent marriage of Miss Beatrice Solomon
of Hollywood, Calif., to Sgt. Jack Malin of Detroit, a buffet supper
was served last Saturday night for 100 guests at the Vladeck Cul-
tural Center, Los Angeles. The Solomon-Malin families gave the
affair in honor of the Korostishever Societies of Los Angeles and
Detroit. J. C. Solomon, toastmaster, Maurice Winarsky, president
of the Los Angeles society, Mrs. S. K. Slobin of Detroit, who is
visiting relatives in Los Angeles, were among the speakers. There
were guests from New York, Chicago and Detroit. The sum of $100
was contributed to veterans' relief funds. Mrs. Malin greeted the
gathering in her own behalf and in behalf of Sgt. Malin who is now
serving in the Solomon Islands where he won honor citations as a
Marine.
Simon Barere, eminent pianist who appeared with the Detroit
SymPhtly Saturday, was the guest during a week's stay here of
Mrs. Gertrude Marks and family.
David A. Brown, former Detroiter, now a resident of New York,
was the guest of his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Z. Brown, last week. Mr. and Mrs. BrOwn resumed their residence
in New York after 10 months in Los Angeles.
S/Sgt. and Mrs. Theodore Brown and infant son, Steven, are
her on a 30-day furlough and are visiting with Mr. Brown's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brown of Fenkell Ave. Upon conclusion of
their visit, they will return to Tuntagords, Fla., where S/Sgt. Brown
is stationed.
• Paula Tyner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Tyner of Warrington
Dr. has left to resume studies for a second semester at the University
of Michigan. She will live at Stockwell Hall.
Fayanne Greenblatt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Greenblatt
of Fairfield Ave., and Arlene Gendelman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Gendelman of Fairfield Ave., are now attending the Univer-
sity of Illinois in Champaign.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Goldberg will be honored on the occasion of
their 25th wedding anniversary, at a dinner to be given by their
daughter, Zella, on Sunday, Nov. 5, at 4:30 p. m., at Congregation
Beth Tefilo Emanuel, Taylor at Woodrow Wilson.
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Wineman of Hamilton Dr. are spending
a week in New York City.
Dr. and Mrs. George Waldbott of Huntington Woods returned
Wednesday from a fortnight in Tryon, N. C.
Complimenting Miss Elaine Sandorf and her f i a n c e, Capt.
Samuel Gershenson, Mr. and Mrs. William Gershenson of Fairfield
Ave. are giving a cocktail party this Saturday evening and Capt.
and Mrs. Lewis B. Daniels will be hosts at brunch on Sunday in
their home on Warrington Dr.
Mrs. Henry Soss of Balmoral Rd. left on Wednesday for a visit
in New York City.
Mr. and Mrs. Julius Gilbert of Arden Park have invited.a group
of friends to a dinner this Saturday evening at the Book Cadillac
Hotel.
Mr. and Mrs. Julian G. Wolfner of Burlington Dr. left Sunday
for New York City.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Roberts have moved from the Belcreit
Hotel and are residing at 3350 W. Seven Mile Rd.
Mrs. Max H. Field of Longfellow Ave. and her mother, Mrs.
L. S. Wise, have returned from a three-week stay in New York
City where they were guests at the Savoy Plaza Hotel. She was
joined in New York by her son, Lt. John Field, on leave from Fort
Smith, Ark.

Miss Eileen Sally Steingold,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mau-
rice Steingold of Calvert Ave.,
became the bride of Lt. Milton H.
Aronson, son of Mrs. Haskell
Aronson of St. Louis, Mo., on
Sunday, Oct. 29. Dr. A. M. Hersh-
man performed the ceremony at
the Whittier Hotel. The immedi-
ate families and a few friends
attended.
Miss Sylvia Aronson, of St.
Louis, the bridegroom's sister,
was maid of honor and the Misses
Harriet Stern and Pearl Epstein
were the bridesmaids. Fred Aron-
son of St. Louis served his broth-
er as best man, and the ushers
were Nathan Steingold and Wil-
liam Greenwald.
Following the family dinned a
reception was held in the eve-
ning. for their friends.
The couple left on a short
honeymoon trip to Chicago, after
which they will, for the present,
make their home in East Lansing,
Mich., where Lt. Aronson is sta-
tioned at Michigan State College.
Besides the bridegroom's moth-
er, sister and brother, the out-of-
town guests included Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Aronson and their son,
Martin, Mrs. Zelma Fisher and
Miss Beverly Fisher of St. Louis,
Mo., Miss Ruth Klein of Cleve-
land, Miss Betty Cheron of Mus-
kegon, Mr. ad Mrs. Jack Kree-
kun of Bay City, and Dr. and
Mrs. Maurice Goldstick, Mr. and
Mrs. Fritz Herz6g, Mr. and- Mrs.

To Hear Lecture
On Rehabilitation

The Bar Mitzvah of Alvin

It will be the first Bar Mitzvah
service at this synagogue. Rabbi

Dr. Stafford, Civilian Aide of
AAF Program, Guest
Speaker on Monday

Dr. George T. Stafford will
speak on "Rehabilitation in a
Post War World" at the meeting
of the Detroit Section, National
Council of Jewish Women, at 1:30
p. in. Monday at the Jewish Cen-
ter. There will be a dessert
luncheon.
Dr. Stafford, civilian consult-
ant of the American Air Force
Rehabilitation program, is ad-
visor in the treatment of indi-
vidual cases of physically and
mentally handicapped airmen, as
well as the originator of broad
programs for both the army and
the navy.
Dr. Stafford started his cam-
paign for physical fitness before
Pear) Harbor. He is a special lec-
turer at New York University,
and professor of physical educa-
tion at the University of Illinois.
After the lecture there will be
a question period. The opening
prayer will be given by Mrs.
Leonard Weiner. Mrs. Croll will
discuss the election issues.
Mrs. Max Frank, chairman of
the Resale Shop, urges every
member to bring a piece of cos-
tume jewelry as a ticket of ad-
mission.

FIXEL - WEDELES: Joseph
Wedeles of Quincy, Fla., an-
nounces the recent marriage of
his daughter, Carolyn, to Lt. Ar-
thur R. Fixel, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur E. Fixel of East Bos-
ton Blvd. The couple are making
their home in Hilton
Va., near Langley Field where
Lt. Fixel is stationed.

Mlaver Party Nets
$814 for Packages
For Jews in Poland

At a farewell party given by
the Mayer Umgegend Verein in
honor of Joe Greenbaum and his
family on their departure for
California, the amount of $814
was collected towards the cam-
paign for food and medicine
packages for the surviving Jews
in liberated Poland.
The money was brought in by
S. Lichtenstein and I. Bernstein
to the Emergency Relief Fund of
the American Federation for Po-
lish Jews, which is conducting
this campaign to secure in De-
troit at least 10,000 packages.
Mlaver Verein headed the list of
donors with: $400.
The Office of the Federation is
located at 9124 Linwood; where
donations are accepted. For in-
formation call TY. 7-9650, 6 to
9 p. m. daily except Friday, Sat-
urday and Sunday.
