Implementation of Palestine International Arlazaroff Bond Drive Opens
Pledges Asked by Mizrachi Leaders Will In Tribute to T-4 M. Miller
ATLANTIC CITY (IPS) —caking at the concluding session
of the Mizrachi Women's Eastern eaboard Conference, Rabbi. Wolf
Gold of New York. chairman of the Religious Groups Contact De-
partment of the American Zionist Emergency Council, denounced
The American Council for Judaism for • suggesting the repatriation
of the Jewish people to the countries in Eastern Central Europe
where they had been subjected to degradation and atrocities, as a
solution of the Jewish problem.
The. Mizrachi- Organization of America, in convention here,
a declaration citing the actions of President Roosevelt and
Governor
Governor Dewey, endorsing a Jewish Commonwealth in Palestine,
and demanding that these pronoUncements be 'implemented im-
mediate•y to save the lives of hundreds of thousands of prooted
itu
European Jews."
The declaration also urged that the Congress. of the United
States, in view of the announcement by Secretary of War Stimson
that the Palestine question should . now be determined upon the
political rather than the military basis, take up the matter of the
Palestine Resolutions-now pending in the House, at the earliest
possible moment.
Dr. Abba Hillel Silver of Cleveland, chairman of the Executive
Committee of the American Zionist Emergency Council, spokesman
for all Zionist parties of America, paid tribute to Mizrachi for its
l!magnificent role in the significant progress which our movement
has made in the United States during the past year. This is the hour
to marshal our maximum strength so that the age old hopes of our
people may finally and fully be realized."
Messages were also received from Rabbi Isaac Herzog, Chief
Rabbi of 'Palestine, and from Rabbi Judah Fishman of the World
Zionist Executive.
Arab Paper Urges Anti-U. S. Boycott
- CAIRO (JTA) — A boycott of American goods was proclaimed
here by the Wafdist newspaper Al Wahl* al Masri, which called on
the- entire Egyptian press to forget partisan rivalry and unite in
similar action. • .
The action climaxed a growing anti-Zionist campaign which has
taken an anti-American turn because of the pro-Zionist planks
adopted by the Democratic and Republican parties in the United
States. An anti-United States boycott had been previously proclaim-
ed by Arab newspapers in - Palestine.
Two other powerful Wafdist newspapers in Egypt, Al Misri and
Al Balagh, are expected to join in urging the public to boycott
American products. Al Balagh is the largest Islamic newspaper in
the world.
Chicago Organizations Denounce Bergson
. CHICAGO (JPS)
The Emergency Committee to Save the
Jewish People of Europe, an organization headed by Peter Bergson,
was charged with "misrepresentation" in a joint statement by eight
leading Jewish organizations representing thousands of Chicago
Jews. "The so-called Emergency Committee to Save the Jewish
People of Europe does not save or rescue any Jews; because its
program is largely one of advertising.
The statement declares:
The organizations issuing the statement are the 9hicago dele-
gates of the American Jewish Conference, AMerican . Jewish Con-
gress, Chicago Bnai Brith Councils, Chicago Rabbinical Association,
Chicago chapter of Hadassah, Jewish Labor Committee, Jewish War
Veterans and the Zionist Organization of Chicago.
The Jewish Welfare Fund of Chicago has advised its 35,000
minebers that it does not endorse the fund raising activities of the
Emergency Committee.
