Community War Chest CampaignLaunchedHere;
2,000 Jewish Workers Aid Drive for $8,250,000

Single Annual Campaign to Raise Funds for Our Neighbors, Our Allies
and Our Fighting Men Also Includes United Jewish Appeal

The Community War Chest Drive is on,
and approximately 2,000 Jewish volunteer
workers are enrolled in the great effort to con-
duct the house-to-house campaign to raise the
sum of $8,250,000 to provide funds for causes to
aid our neighbors, our allies and our fighting
men. The Jewish workers were enrolled
through the Jewish Welfare Federation and its
agencies and the Detroit Service Group.
One half of the funds go to the USO at
home and in the war zones, to War Prisoners
Aid, United Seamen's Service, Refugee Relief,
and the United Nations Relief in 14 Allied
Countries. The other half of the fund will stay
in our own community to provide health, wel-
fare and recreational services.
The United Jewish Appeal for Refugees,
Overseas Needs and Palestine—a constituent
agency of the Allied Jewish Campaign of the
Jewish Welfare Federation of Detroit — and 55
other agencies of the Allied Campaign and the
Jewish Welfare Federation, are among the
major beneficiaries.

The War Chest campaign is a single annual
drive to raise funds for the 80 Community Fund
agencies, a number of local war-related projects and
all the major war .relief agencies with the excep-
tion of the Red Cross, which conducts a separate
campaign.

30,000 Volunteers in Detroit Drive

To raise the money to carry On this work,
thousands of unpaid volunteers in some 10,000 com-
munities in the U. S. are soliciting their neighbors.
The combined objective of this army is more than
$250,000,000. Some 30,000 volunteers are working
to raise Metropolitan Detroit's share.
Here, the soliciting is carried on by three units.
One. under the chairmanship of Edwin J. Anderson
and S. T. Stackpole, contacts industrial plants. Oscar
Webber and James B. Webber Jr. head the unit
which solicits commercial and professional places.
The largest unit, known as the Metropolitan Unit
and headed this year by Joseph P. Glaser, solicits
everyone, block-by-block and door-by-door.
The city is divided into districts and sub-divi-
ded into approximately 500 zones which vary in
size according to the number of blocks and the
population. In charge of each is a zone captain.
Enrollment of Jewish workers in the War Chest
has been unusually gratifying, according to Henry
Wineman, vice-chairman of the drive.

ready have been recorded are:
