ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY
- Miss Rose Miller, former recreation director at the Grand
Street Settlement in New York, now a recreational consultant for
the Red Cross, stationed at the Naval Hospital, San Francisco,
Calif., will visit her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Don
Miller of 17320 Stoepel Ave., this week, before leaving for Wash-
ington to prepare for overseas duty.
Capt. Stewart Lewis of the Army Air Corps, who was stationed
with the 8th Air. Force in England, arrived in Detroit on Oct.-12 and
is the house guest of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel B. Goldberg of 1555
Lawrence Ave. He formerly trained men at Dearborn, Mich.
Mrs. Gerald R. Aptekar and son, Robert, of Waverly Ave.
have left for Cheyenne, Wyo., where they Will join their husband
and father, Lt. Aptekar, who is station-eel at Fort Francis E. Warren.
Dr. Harry Portnoy is spending the week of Oct. 16 in Chicago,
attending the sessions of the International Medical Assembly.
He will return on Oct. 27.
In honor of Shirlee Siegel, whose marriage to Pfc. Norman
Graff will take place this month, Mrs. Sidney Rosen and Mrs.
Henry Graff were hostesses at a miscellaneous shower given at
the Book-Cadillac Hotel Oct. 3.
Cpl. Meyer Siegel has returned from New Guinea and is spend-
ing a one month furlough with his wife and daughter at the home
of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. Tonkin of 2075 Hazelwood Ave.
On a 15-day furlough from Las Vegas, Nev., S/Sgt. Albert Tonkin
is also staying at the home of his parents, and, to complete the
reunion, a sister, Rhoda, who is employed by the government in
California, will arrive for a 15-day vacation. -
S/Sgt. and Mrs. Jack Mackson (Lillian Rita Goodman) will ar-
rive in Detroit on October 22, for a brief visit with Mrs. Mackson's
parents,. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Goodman of Rochester Ave. Sgt. and
Mrs. Mackson are living in Santa Barbara, Calif., where Sgt. Mack-
son is stationed at the USMC Air Base.
Miss Elaine Gloria Jasen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. Jasen of
18072 Woodingham Drive, left two weeks ago for Long Branch, N. J.,
where she is attending Highland Manor School.
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas I. Brown of- Lucerne Dr. left Tuesday for
Poughkeepsie, N. Y., where they will spend a few days visiting
with their daughter, Sally, a student at Vassar College, before going
to New York City.
Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Weisman of Suffolk Dr. are expecting Mrs.
Weisman's brother-in-law and sister, Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Hyman of
Cincinnati, to spend a feW days as their guests.
Capt.. Harold Rattner, who has been stationed at Panama, is
spending a month's leave with Mrs. Rattner and their daughters,
Nancy and Mary of Wellesly.. •
Mr. and Mrs. Day Krolik have moved from Canterbury Rd.
and are now residing at 17145 Wildemere.
Mr. and Mrs. William H. Frank of Wildemere Ave. and
their mother, Mrs. H. J. L. Frank of Colorado Ave., are planning to
leave this week-end for New YOrk. City.
Mrs. Maurice P. Meyers and her- daughter, Harriet, will leave
this Friday fOr Miami Beach, Fla., where they will spend the winter.
Major Meyers is stationed in England.
Mrs. Max Michel and Mrs. Milton Kuttnauer of the Belcrest
Hotel are spending a fortnight in New York City.
Mrs. Howard Shelman, who has been visiting her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Joseph Hartman of Chicago Blvd., left Monday for Solo-
mons, Md., to join her husband, Lt. (s.g.) Sherman.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert M. Meyers of Chicago Blvd. and Mr. and
Mrs: Melvin H. Baer of Fairfield Ave. will be hosts to a group of
friends at dinner this Friday evening at the Great Lakes Club, and
at a similar affair on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
Miss Ethel Steinberg of New York City is spending a few weeks
as the guest of her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Myron
Steinberg of Webb Ave,
Mr. and Mrs. Morris Jacobs of Glynn Ct. are spending 10 days
in Atlantic City and Nec - York City.

end in Detroit visiting friends.
Mrs. Max J. Weinberg of Warrington Dr. and her daughter, Mrs.
Arthur Coleman, left Sunday for a week in New York City.
Ensign and Mrs. Stanley J. Winkelman spent a few days with
their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Wallace of Canterbury Rd., and
Mr. and Mrs. Leon G. Winkelman of Fairfield Ave., enroute to Holly-
wood, Fla., from Tuscon, Ariz., where Ensign Winkelman attended
the Endoctrination School.

spending a few weeks with members of her family.

Tuesday from a few weeks' visit in Atlantic City.

Zalkowitz, son of Mr. and Mrs.
M. Zalkowitz, at Jericho Temple,
on Oct. 10, Rabbi Isaac Stollman
officiating. The ceremony was
attended by 75 guests, - including
many of the bride's relatives
from Cleveland.
Sgt. Zalkowitz had just return-
ed from the South Pacific, where
he was stationed on a hospital
ship.

united in marriage at 6:30 p. m.
Satruday, Oct. 14, at the Book
Cadillac Hotel. Dr. A: M. Hersh-
man performed the ceremony.
The bride was lovely in a sim-
ple Lanvin gown of candlelight
satin fashioned along the tradi-
tional lines with tight bodice,
long sleeves and- full skirt and
train. Her veil was illusion and
she carried calla Mlles.
The matron of honor, the
bride's aunt, Mrs. Seymour
Owens and the bridesmaids, the
Misses Doris Lee Rothberg, Idell
Laudman, Bernice Grossberg,
Shirley Goldman, Rolla Jacobs,
and Joan Rieger of Chicago,
were gowned alike in candlelight
taffeta. They wore little caps
fashioned of American beauty il-
lusion and carried American
beauty roses.
The groom's brother, Pfc. Ir-
win Roth, served as best man
and the ushers were the • bride's
brother, Yale Aronoff, her uncle,
Seymour Owens, and Martin
Green, Joseph Allender, Phillip
Wexler and Henry Ehrlich.
After the dinner at which 300
guests were seated, the young
