Mrs. Maurice Klein, chairman
of the Temple Beth El library
committee, announces that Mrs.
Arthur L. Goulson is now serving
as the librarian of the Temple
Library.
Mrs. Goulson was associated
with the. Detroit Public Library
for a number of years and is a
graduate of Drake University,
Des Moines, Ia., and the Scl-tool of
Library. Science of Western Re-
serve University, Cleveland, 0.,
holding, degrees of B.S., L.S., and
B.A. She will be assisted by Miss
Faye Flint who has been connect-
ed with the Temple Library for
the past four years.
The Temple Library has been
completely reorganized and un-
der the guidance of Mrs. Goulson
is equipped to render service to
the children of the religious
school, members of the Temple,
and the community at large.
Every book of Jewish interest
published in the United States
will be available in the library as
soon as it is off the press and a
large selection of English-Jewish
periodicals and magazines will be
received regularly.
An extensive exhibit in No-
vember in connection with JeW-
ish Book week is being planned
and similar exhibits will be ar-
ranged on the occasion of Jewish
festivals and other events.
Besides Mrs. Klein, the mem-
bers of the library committee are:

Brown, Mrs. Louis Cohane, Morse
Goldman, Mrs. William Isenberg,
Mrs. Hoke Levin, Royal Maas,

ger, Lester Smith and Jose Win-
sen.

Beth El's First
Friday Evening
Service, Oct. 20

The opening Sabbath evening
service at Temple Beth El will be
conducted on Friday evening,
Oct. 20, at 8:15.
Dr. B. Benedict Glazer will
preach and the Temple quartet
with Julius Chajes directing and
Jason Tickton at the organ will
render the music which will in-
clude new compositions by Ros-
kin of Temple Beth•El in Indian-
apolis, Walter Davidson of Tem-
ple Beth Emeth in Brooklyn, and
Herbert Fromm of Temple Israel,
Boston, as well as responses by
Sulzer.
A social hour, under the aus-
pices of the Sisterhood, will fol-
low the service.
Sabbath morning services are
held from 11 to 12. Dr. Leo M.
Franklin will officiate and preach
this Saturday.

Interfaith Institutes

CINCINNATI (JPS) — Rabbi
Maurice N. Eisendrath, director
of the Union of American He-
brew Congregations, announced
that. the U. A. H. C. and the CenL.
tral Conference of American
Rabbis, have arranged Interfaith
Institutes on Judaism, for Chris-
tian leaders and teachers. The
Institutes, to be established in
many communities, have the fol-
lowing purposes, he said: "To
spread authentic knowledge of
Jewish beliefs and practices, to
replace lack of information and
misinformation concerning Juda-
ism by facts and authoritative
history, to foster sympathetic un-
derstanding based on knowledge
and appreciation of the Jewish
faith and people, and to empha-
size the common origins and
ideals inherent in both Judaism
and Christianity."

Mizrachi to Hold
Meeting Saturday

Mizrachi Organization of De-
troit will open the coming sea-
son's activities with a general
membership meeting this Satur-
day, at 9 p. m., at Congregation
Bnai. Jacob, Linwood at Richton.
Reports will be given on planned
activities for this winter.
The annual convention of
Mizrachi will be held Oct. 26,
27, 28 and 29, at St. Charles
Hotel, Atlantic City, N. J. It
will be attended by American
Orthodoxy's outstanding person-
alities who will discuss the res-
cue of European Jewry and their
rehabilitation in Eretz Israel and
will develop a broad program of
religious, cultural, and political
activity.
The following are the Detroit
delegates: Daniel Temchin, Isi-
dore Sosnick, Rabbi Isaac Stoll-
man, Rabbi Max J. Wohlgelern-
,ter, Irving W. Schlussel, Max

Hanukah Gifts to
Men in Service

The war • activities committee of
Temple Beth El, headed by Har-
old C. Allen, who served as a

engaged in preparing Hanukah
gifts to be sent to the service men
and women whose names appear
on the Temple Honor Roll.
Members of the Temple who
have sons, daughters, sons-in-law
and daughters - in - law in the
armed forces were notified by
letter to mail to the Temple Of-
fice the latest addresses of their
loved ones.
Last year, the Men's Club sent
a magazine Subscription to men
and women in service. N-•
The other members of Mr. Al-
len's committee have also served
in the armed forces and are now
back in civilian life. They are:

Pontiac Talmud Torah
Resumes Its Classes

Congregational Bnai Israel,
268 W. Pike St., Pontiac, has re-
sumed Talmud Torah classes in
Hebrew, Jewish history and lit-
urgy.
Sunday School registrations
will commence this Sunday
morning.
Rabbi I. Strauss announces the
formation of a high school de-
partment for students 14 to 17.
On Saturday mornings, pupils
of the religious school conduct
their own services.
The congregation's annual Sim-
hat Torah dinner will be held
this Sunday evening at the syna-
gogue. Rabbi Strauss will speak
on "Iirael's Priceless Heritage."

Sermon on. Oct. 20

Temple Israel Pulpit This
Friday Evening

Sumner Welles' book on Amer-
ican war aims and peace objec-
tives, "The Time for Decision,"
will be the subject of Rabbi Leon
Fram's sermon at the Sabbath
Eve service of Temple Israel, Fri-
day, Oct. 20, at 8:30 p. m., in the
Lecture Hall of the Detroit Insti-
tute of Arts. It will be the first
of a series of sermons on books
and statements dealing with post-
war reconstruction.
Other books to be discussed
will be Walter Lippman's "U. S.
War Aims" and Kurt Riess' "The
Nazis Go Underground."
The services will be followed
by a social hour in the Romanes-
que Hall of the Institute of Arts,
and a symposium to discuss Mr.
Welles' book and its interpreta-
tion.
This Friday night,
Isaac
Frahck, director of the Jewish
Community Council, will occupy
the pulpit of Temple Israel and
speak on the subject "American
Jewry After the War."

Bnai David Pupils
Report at Central

Bnai David Religious School
announces that all children must
report this Sunday at 10:30 a.
m., at Central High School, La-
Salle and Tuxedo, where all
classes will be held henceforth.
For the last four Sundays, the
religious school met in the syn-
agogue building for brief clasS
periods and holiday assemblies.
Children, 5 to 16, are accepted
in the religious school, in kin-
dergarten through high school
classes.
