THE JEWISH NEWS Jewish Year 5705 Will See• Victory, Leaders Predict Jewish Commonwealth of Pales- tine. As a people we are grateful. beyond telling to the military and civilian leaders of our Na- tion, under the President of the United States who out of the darkness have led us into the light and through the valley of shadows to the mountain heights and to the new and more daring hope that man may now and forever justly cherish. Dr. Wise, Dr. I. Goldstein and Judge Rothenberg Issue Greetings By MORRIS ROTHENBERG President, Jewish National Fund of America As the gates of the Nazi in- ferno are being smashed, t h e year 5705 of the Hebrew calen- dar promises to be the hbin- ger of victory for America and the United Nations, liberation for the oppressed peoples of Eu- rope and of rescue and rehabili- tation for t h e surviving rem- nants of European Jewry. This is the supreme moment for which we have so long prayed, worked and fought. As t h e victorious United Nations are prepared for t h e establish- ment of an en- during peace, it becomes neces- sary to mobilize o u r forces for securing an ear- ly and favorable solution of the Tei,vish problem through the est- Rothenberg ablishment of a democratic Jewish Common- wealth in Eretz Israel. The land acquisition program of the Keren Kayemeth, there- fore, is. a task which becomes increasingly basic to all our plans and demands for the fu- ture of Eretz Israel. The sup- port of the Yishuv by American Jewry has contributed much to strengthening Palestine's share in the war effort. By Dr. Stephen S. Wise No joy present can cancel the infinite woe of the year which is about to end. Nonetheless, as American Jews we take our full and glad part in the celebration of one great triumph after an- other, which has come to Ameri- can arms and to United Nations' aims. The liberation of Paris and best of all its self-liberation are cause for high- est rejoicing among\ all men and peoples who prize human freedom and cherish human valor. T he Russian armies press on, : They have wrought an un- believable mir- acle of reconque- st to the honor of the armies and the peoples Dr. S. S. Wise of Russia, under the mighty lead- ership of their inspiring Com- mander-in-Chief. The blackest days have ended. The chief compensation is to be the establishment by the Jewish people, together with the United Nations, of a free and democratic . By DR. ISRAEL GOLDSTEIN President, Zionist Organization of America The New- Year 570 will usher in the era of final and decisive victory. On a hundred battle- fields the war against the most dreadful foe that has ever as- sailed the city of God and the city of man is being won. The -Jewish people, whose sons are fighting with every army of Lib- eration, cannot but hail this tide of victory with solemn joy and acclamation. This past year has witnessed the Culmination of the mightiest crime in recorded history—the extermination of the greater part of European Jewry. This crime is a crime of which none are wholly guiltless. Does the con- sciousness of it flame at the fore- front of victory? Or do unworthy hesitations and technical machi- nations still impede that redeinp- tion of our remnants without which victory will be poisoned and the triumph of arms small promise of a better world? Victory does not automatically bring with it the solution of all problems. For those harassed Jews of Europe who have mirac- ulously escaped grim extermina- tion it marks a period of transi- tion. For the Jews of America it marks the reassumption of onerous responsibilities, the re- acquisition of duties and obliga- tions. Victory brings in its wake the knowledge that greater-sac- rifice and greater determination on the part of American Jews is essential to alleviate and rem- edy the plight of our Jewish brethren across the,_seas. - Page Sixty-seven Altman Dedicates Radio Broadcasts To Jewish Causes Hyman Altman, who, together with Mrs. Altman, directs the Jewish Radio Hours on Station WJLB on Saturday nights and Sundays at noon, announced this week that he has formulated plans for a complete year's serv- ices to important causes, during his broadcasts. Mrs. Agnes Waters, leader of "The Mothers of America," attacked Jews and Negroes as being behind the bill. "Why should Negroes and Jews be given the jobs of white men?" she said. "Jews hold the finest jobs in the government. They came here a generation ago and rose from peddlers to become the richest merchants of this country. They own most of the stores, theaters and movies, and became millionaires. If we want- ed to really deal with them, we would refuse to buy in their stores or go to their movies. And we will do it if they get ob- noxious." Young Israel to Conduct Services on Holydays Young Israel will conduct Holy- day services at 2671 Joy Road and at YeShivath Beth Yehudah.
