'Call on President
To Speed Rescue

Declaration of the First World'
War.

NEW YORK. — The Christian
Council on Palestine, represent-
ing 2,000 Christian; ministers and
religious educators in the U. S.
called on President Roosevelt to
carry out a three-point program
for the rescue of persecuted
Jewry in Nazi-occupied Europe.
In telegrams to the President
and Secretary of State Hull, the
Council urged:
1—that the President use his
good offices "in urging the Brit-
ish Government to abrogate the
policy of the 1939 White Paper,
and to lower the immigration
barriers of Palestine so that at
least some of the Jews in Europe
may be rescued and permitted to
enter the National Homeland
promised them in the Balfour

3—that the President "exert all
pressure possible on the Govern-
ment of Admiral Horthy and
compel them to cease all perse-
cution of the Jewish people in
Hungary."

2—that the U. S. open its gates
to establish free ports for refu-
gees, "not to a mere thousand,
but to tens of thousands."

The telegrams were signed by
Dr. Henry A. Atkinson, chair-
man, and Dr. Carl Hermann
Voss, executive secretary, of the
Christian Council on Palestine.

ZION INNOVATION

Will Use Soap as
Cream. Container

TEL AVIV (JPS-Palcor)—An
ingenious idea has been devised
by a pharmaceutical firm in Tel
Aviv to overcome the difficulty
caused by the shortage of glass
a n d metal containers for 'I t s
products. Its manager, F. En-
gellmann, has produced a "con-
tainer" made of toilet-soap, for
filling with cold cream and sim-
ilar substances. Once the con-
tents have been used, the soap
can be used for ordinary toilet
purposes.
It is believed that this novel
packing will be eagerly sought
on Middle East markets after
the war, as the soap • with hol-
loWed inside can be cast in vari-
ous forms, giving an attractive
setting to the cream. The firm,
the Lys Company, is now ex-
perimenting with such contain-
ers to hold Eau de Cologne lo-
tion water.
