WASHINGTON — Bnai Brith's
hightst journalistic accolade:—
first place in each of the four
divisions of the annual National
Lodge and Auxiliary Bulletin
Contest—was won this year by

Carmel, Pa., Lodge; The Menor-
ah of Pisgah Bnai Brith Women,
Detroit; and The Menorah of
Benos Ami Bnai Brith Women,
Philadelphia, it was announced
by Bnai Brith's National Depart-
ment of Information.

First, second and third prizes
and honorable mentions won by
38 lodges and auxiliaries in 13
states and the District of Colum-
bia and two Canadian provinces,
located in 22 'different cities.

The judges were Max F. Baer,
director of the Bnai Brith Voca-
tional Service Bureau; Robert
Harper, secretary of the Ameri-
can Public Relations Association;
and Bernard Postal, national dir-
ector of Bnai Brith information.

Bucharest Synagogue
Bomb Blast Averted

Istanbul (JPS)—An explosion,
which might have cost the lives
of several hundred worshippers,
was averted when a bomb, ap-
parently planted by the Iron
Guard, was discovered in the
Great Synagogue in Bucharest
during morning services. The
synagogue was crowded at the
time with many worshippers, in-
cluding some men and officers
of the Red Army.

Awarded Air Medal
NEW YORK (JPS) — Major
Herbert Waldman of Long Island
City, Queens, who has been cited
for completing 50 combat mis-
sions, was awarded the Air
Medal, it was announced by the
War Dept. He was graduated from
flying school before Pearl Har-
bor.
