Livingston Believes Civilization
May Anathematize Anti-Semitism

Founder and Chairman of Anti-Defamation League of Bnai
Brith Outlines Causes and Cures of Bigotry in
New Book, "Must Men Hate?"

Few men are as well informed
on the anti-Semitic issues and
the cures offered to fight them
as Sigmund Livingston, founder
and for 30 years chairman of the
Anti-Defamation League of Bnai
Brith. All his life practically, he
has dealt with these issues.
The major facts regarding
prejudices which cause Jew-bait-
ing are incorporated in his analy-
sis of the causes of anti-Semitism
and the proferred cures, in his
book, "Must Men Hate?" just
published by Harper ,& Bros.
Seed of Anti-Semitism
Mr. Livingston's approach to
his subject is unusually interest-
ing. He treats anti-Semitism as
a seed and he points out how,
when scattered on virgin soil, it
becomes fertile and results in a
rich harvest of bigotry and
hatred.

Miami Theaters The Promise of
Cancel Showing The New Year
"Americans All" A New Year Message by Judge

to all of us - who have suffered
so much and have waited so long,
the . clarion chords of the shofar
this. New Year will sound the
note of hope for this brave new
world.

MIAMI (JTA) — The current
March of Time film, "Americans
All," which portrayS the multi-
plying outbreaks of bigotry in
the United States, including anti-
Semitic vandalism in the East
and the dangerous tide of Negro
suppression in the South, has
been cancelled here, after being
scheduled for showing in three
major first-run theaters.
The "excuse' gIven for the can-
cellation by the management, ac-
cording to the Miami Daily
News, was that a "few irrespon-
sible movie-goers in nearby Hol-
lywood, Fla., emitted some boos
and catcalls when viewing the
subject there recently." The film
had . previously been endorsed by
Young Men's Christian Associa-
tion, Federal Council of Churches,
Anti-Defamation League, Nation-
al Conference of Christians and
Jews and other national organi-
zations.

May the New Year vitalize and
perpetuate in our hearts and
minds the spirit and resolutions
of the holiday.
"Persecution," Maimonides long
ago consoled his people, "is a
tribute to the presence of God in
Israel's camp." Today, God is in
the camp of myriads of men,
women and children, Jewish and
non-Jew. He is in the camp of
all the world's afflicted. Let us
touch the hem of divinity to gath-
er the power and inspiration to
create the world -where man-
made holocausts will cease and
all peoples be accorded the dig-
nity and sanctity due to His
image, a world in which all peo-
pies will be endowed with the
sacred right to live and develop
and go forward to embrace their
divine heritage. •
