Palestinian Soldiers:

Among the many thOusands of Jewish fight-
ing men and women in the ranks of the
United Nations armies who will observe the New Year on the battlefronts, will be soldiers
who were helped to join the march to victory by the rescue agencies of the United Jewish
Appeal. -
Photo shows members of an all-Jewish unit from Palestine at services somewhere in
the Middle East. Through the rehabilitation and resettlement provided by the Joint- Dis-
tribution Committee, United Palestine Appeal and National Refugee Service, former refugees
are ay participating in the liberation of fellow-Jews in lands devastated by Nazism. The
UJA receives its support in Detroit from the War Chest.

At the joyous Thanksgiving Service of
Liberation at Temple Israelitico, Rome,
recently bro adcast over the NBC network in • a special

Jewish Corn mittee, Chief Rabbi Israel Zolli of Rome program

Dedicated in 1904, the synagogue,
surrounded b y remnants of ancient archaeological Rome,
was built according to plans of
the distinguis hed Italian architects, Osvaldo Armanni and Vincenzo Costa, in simple lines

harmonious w ith neighboring edifices.

Liberated:

Worshipers outside the Rome syna-
gogue located on the banks of the
Tiber in the heart of the historic Jewish quarter of Rome, during
the Liberation Thanksgiving Service. This synagogue was the
successor to the old Temple which was destroyed by fire in
1893. Located on. the Lungotevere Cenci, the synagogue faces
the ruins of • Portico Ottavia and Old Pons Judaeorum (The

Bridge of the Jews).
