Three Power postwar security conference being
held at Dumbarton Oaks. Mr. Pasvolsky heads
the State Department's secret postwar planning
committee and will probably do most of the
behind-the-scenes work at the conference.
Thousands of haughty Reichwehr officers,
captured at Stalingrad by the Russians, sat
through an evening listening to a recital of
the poems of Heinrich Heine, Gerrnany'§ lead-
ing lyricist of all times, it is reported by Ella
Winters, New York Post war correspondent in
Moscow. The Heine program, organized for the
German prisoners by a member of the Free
German Committee, included Schubert and
Schumann renditions of Heine's romantic
lieder. The Nazis were told that "this German
was a Jewish poet, Heinrich Heine."
The Brooklyn lodge of the Bnai Brith, na-

been undertaken by the Deniver Council of
Jewish Women.

are serving with United States armed forces,
it was revealed at a conference of Jewish chap-
lains of the northeastern area held in New
York. Two hundred and twenty-five Jewish
chaplains are with the Army, 40 with the Navy
and one in the maritime service.
OVERSEAS
The horror- of the 'atrocities committed by
the Nazis against the population of White
Russia, especially the Jews, was revealed in a
letter received by Marshal Stalin from the
survivors of Minsk, White Russia's capital.
Minsk also served as the graveyard for Jews
from Warsaw, Lodz and Hamburg. Among the
thousands • murdered by the Nazis, the letter
reveals, are the following leading medical men
of White Russia: Prof. Khurgin, outstanding
surgeon; Prof. Dvorzhits, eye specialist; Prof.
Klumov, gynecologist; Dr. Gurevich, pediatric-
ian; and Prof. Sitterman.
Economic discrimination against the Jews in
Algiers and Tunis, while no longer operative
as law, is still effective to the detriment of- the
Jewish merchants, artisans and manufacturers,
and there is very little that General De Gaulle
and his advisers can do about it. To rectify the
wrongs and to stop the sabotage of his annul-
ments, General De Gaulle would have to over-
haul the entire - administrative machinery in
these areas, and this must be deferred pending
termination of the war.
"Volk et Land," official organ of the Flethish
Nazi Party, has published •an editorial charging
that "thousands of Jews, mainly women and
children, are in hiding in the homes of Chris-
tian friends." As a consequence of the news-
paper's campaign, Flemish nationalists began a
house-to-house search in the smaller towns
which yielded, within a few days, 160 Jews
who had been hiding. They were immediately
deported to Germany.
All the Jews remaining at the Nazi concen-
tration camp at Vught and in the rest of occu- •
pied Holland have been transported to Ger-
many for re-internment, the Netherlands News
Agency reports. The Jewish internees, part of
a group of about 3,000 Netherlanders moved to
the Buchenwalde concentration camp inside
Germany, were presumably those kept in the
Netherlands by the Germans for forced labor
in the diamond industry.
