The Religious School of Tem-
ple Beth El will re-open for the
1944-1945 season on Saturday
morning, Sept. 16, for the Con-
firmation Department (grades
7-9), and Sunday morning, Sept.
17, for the Primary, Interniedi-
ate and High School depart-
ments. . •
Registration of new pupils, is
being held daily at the school
office from 9 a. m. ---to 5 p. m.
Either parent or guardian must
accompany the child when regis-
tering. The Religious School ac-
cepts children from the age of
four (Pre-Kindergarten) through
High School age.
All former pupils will receive
detailed instructions by mail. ' _
Special children's services will
be conducted during the Holy
Days in the main auditorium of
Temple Beth El.
Rosh Hashanah services for
I children will be held at 2:30 p. m.
on Monday, Sept. 18. Yom Kip-
pur services will be held at 2
p. m. on Wednesday; Sept. 27.

Rosh. Hashanah and Yom Kip-
pur services will be conducted in
the northwest section of Detroit,
at 19011 Livernois, south of 7-
Mile Road; so that worshippers
who wish to avoid riding, on the
Holy Day may be able to observe
traditional laws.
These services will be held un-
der the supervision of the North-
west Congregation and Center
which already is holding regular
Sabbath services.
Arrangements to attend these
services and further information
about them may be obtained
from the temporary president,
Alexander Moss, UN. 1-4637.
Mr. Moss points out that the
synagogue's quarters on Liver-
nois are well equipped for pri-
vacy and healthful ventilation.
Cantor Nathan Lander of New
York has been engaged to conduct
the services and a qualified rabbi
will officiate. There also will be
speakers of interest.
Meetings of the new congrega-
tion have been held during the
year at homes of members and
were highlighted by a mass meet-
ing at the Bagley School. Plans
are now being made for the or-
ganization of a women1 s auxiliary
and to hold another mass meet-
ing between Ros\li Hashanah and
Yom Kippur. Definite announce-
ments will be made at Rosh
Hashanah services.

Reopening Sept. 6
The Detroit Hebrew Parochial
School will begin its kindergar-
ten, first and second grade ses-
sions on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
The hours of instruction will be
as follows: kindergarten, 9 a. m.
to 12:30 p. m.,_ first and second
grades, 9 a. m. to 3 p. rn. Chil-
dren are to /be transported by
the school bus, and those de-
sirous of having lunches, pre-
pared by a registered *nurse sup-
plied by the board of educa-
tion, may apply for theirs at
the school.
Registrations will be held next
week at the Yeshivah office,
Linwood at Elmhurst, or by
calling TO. 8-5505 or TO. 7-5438.

Cantor Abraham Gartenhaus
of New York is the new cantor
of Congregation of Bnai David,
Elmhurst at 14th, it was an-.
nounced this week.
Cantor Gartenhaus was born
in New York where he received
his early education. He acquired
his music training in New York,
at the School of Music -- and by
singing with famous cantors. He
held several positions in the
East and comes highly recom-
mended to Bnai David.
He possesses a lyrical tenor
voice and sings in the inspiring
Chassidic mood.
Cantor Gartenhaus will of-
ficiate at the S'lichos Services
Sept. 9, Saturday at midnight
and on the High Holidays, with
a choir under the direction of
David Shkolnick.
Rabbi Joshua Sperka will
prea'Ch at all services.
Arrangernents have been made
for junior services during the
High Holydays for young people.
A cantor will be engaged to di-
rect and officiate at these serv-
ices. Rabbi Joshua Sperka will
visit the services and preach.
Junior tickets are $1.
The board of Wayne ' County
institutions, which operates tile

Bnai David to Begin
School Enrollment
The Religious School of Con-
gregation Bnai David announces
registratiOn for Sunday, Aug. 27,
and Sunday, Sept. 3, from 11 a.
m. to 12 noon at the synagogue.
The school holds classes at
Central High school and has ac-
commodations for all ages. The
Religious School has a Kinder-
garten,' eight grades, and High
School Department. The school
is supervised by Rabbi Sperka.
Registration will be held in
the school office at Bnai David,
Elmhurst at 14th, for the next
two Sundays, 11 a. m. to 12
noon.
Petoskey Congregation
To Acquire Honor Roll
Upon suggestion of Rabbi Selig
S. Auerbach, the Petoskey Con-
gregation Bnai Israel has decided
to acquire an Honor Roll in trib-
ute to -eight members• in service,
to be dedicated before Rosh Has-
hanah.
Mrs. R. Dobrowitzky of Detroit
has donated a Torah cover for
one of the Sifre Torah of the
congregation.
A summer Talmud Torah was
conducted three times a week by
Rabbi Auerbach.
This Friday night, Rabbi Auer-
bach, will conduct a special ser-
vice 'in memory of the 150th
birthday of Dr. Leopold Zunz,
father of Wissenschaft des Juden-
turns—Science of Judaism.

a novel method for the study of
Chumash and Hebrew grammar,
developed during the three years
of his teaching at the school..One
volume, "Root and Branch," just
issued by the Yeshivah for dis-
tribution to students here and in
other schools throughout the
country, aims to give the essen-
tial rules of Hebrew grammar
and bible syntax.
Directors to Meet
Beth Yehudah was founded in
1917 by the late 'rabbi Yehudah
Leib. Levin. The school subse-
quently was named for him. It
now enters its 27th year and is
maintained by the community at
large; The Board of Directors
and its educational committee
comprises of the rabbis and lay
representatives of all traditional
synagogues in Detroit. A review
of the education and financial
situation of the Yeshivah, and
plans for. Fall activity, are on
the agenda of the bodrd meeting
to be held Monday evening, at
the Yeshivah building.
