PALESTINE

All the flowers, shrubs and trees mentioned
in the Scriptures, Talmud, Midrash, and Gaonic
literature, as having once ornamented Pales-
tine's landscape' and many of which have been
alien to the country for many centuries, will
once again bloom forth soon on one of the
most beautiful hilltops in the vicinity of this
ancient city . . An area of 230' dunams allo-
cated by the Keren Kayemeth, Jewish National
Fund, is to be known-as the "Garden of the
Prophets and Sages" and serve as a "free port"
for the gathering in of these refugee plants.
Dr. Ephraim Hareuveni, of the staff of the
Hebrew University, had long advocated the
planting of such a garden and the project is a
consequence of his persistence.

William 0. Player Jr., reporting from Washing-
ton. "Naively assuming that surely such an
offer would be promptly seized upon, we called
up the British Embassy here yesterday," the
writers say, "and asked how many such visas
had been granted in response. Much to our
surprise — and disappointment — the answer
was NONE."
"The Arabs intend again to resist unlimited
Jewish immigration with bloodshed if such
immigration is again imposed 'on them by
force," warns Stuart C. Dodd, professor at the
American University at Beiritt, Lebanon, in a
letter to the New York Herald Tribune attack-
ing the Palestine planks of the Republican and
Democratic, parties. "This plank tends toward
civil war in Palestine, with America and Eng-
land taking sides against each other," he states.

GENEVA (JPS)—The rapidly diminishing forces of Warsaw's
underground now battling in the city's streets against German
troops, include Jewish units fighting under the blue and white, the
Jewish flag, - according to a communique received here from War-
saw's battlers.
The communique singles out for special mention the unit called
Berek Yoselevitch named for the Jew who led a Jewish force in
the war for Poland's independence in 1863. The unit is commanded
by Aaron Kaplan, the report states, and has caused many German

German military authorities had a guard posted at the Warsaw
ghetto for nearly a year after its demolition seemed to confirm
rumors that Jews were still hiding- in its catacombs.

Jews who managed to flee the city after living for months in the

the vicinity. It may be that these various groups now form/ the

A London dispatch to the Independent JPS earlier in the week
reported that Jewish guerillas from the Radom, Kielce and Miechow
districts had managed to evade the Nazi cordon sanitaire around Right of Complete Equality
Warsaw and had broken into the city to reinforce the Polish under-
