Contemplating the years
of sorrow and tears in Eu-
rope which took lives. of
3,000,000 Jews, this patri-
arch, now on his way to
new life in Palestine,
pauses to ask whether
everything is being done for
the rescue of Jews.
Refugee Soldiers
Win Citizenship
Somewhere on the Allied fronts
refugee soldiers are winning their
right to citizenship through coura-
geous fighting against the Axis.
Here newcomers are receiving con-
gratulations of their commanding
officers after being sworn in as
citizens. Three programs are sup-
ported through the 1944 campaign
of the United Jewish Appeal for
Refugees, Overseas Needs and Pal-
estine. A goal of $32,000,000 has
been adopted in order to enable the
Joint Distribution Committee, the
United Palestine Appeal, and the
National Refugee Service to fulfill
the greater opportunities for say-
ing and rebuilding Jewish life.
College Professor
A Proud Warrior
A former college professor in
Jerusalem, this soldier stands
proudly along-side the truck which
bears the official emblem of one of
the Jewish transport units in the
British army. Soldiers recruited
by the -Jewish Agency for Pales-
tine have fought with distinction
on battlefronts from Syria to Italy.
Young Jewess Joining the WAAF
This young Jewess is receiving her insignia as mem-
ber of the WAAF (Women's Auxiliary Air Force) at a
training center in Palestine. She is one of hundreds of
Jewish women who are backing the RAF in its attacks upon
numerous strategic Nazi targets from the Middle East.
The reconstruction and rescue
programs of the Jewish Agency for
Palestine and the American Joint
Distribution Committee and the
National Refugee Service are fi-
nanced by the UJA with funds re-
ceived in Detroit through the War
Chest.
