United Jewish Appeal Funds Bringing Refugees to Safety With the help of the agencies' of-the United Jewish Appeal for Refugees,. Overseas Needs and Palestine, these refugees from Europe have been brought to safety and freedom in Palestine. Through the combined efforts of the Joint Distribution Committee and the United Palestine Appeal, more than 8,500 reached the 'Jewish homeland in the first half of 1944. Hundreds -have been brought to Canada and the U. S. Those ar- riving here receive , aid from the National Refugee Service. UJA funds here come from the War Chest. Hungary's Persecution of Jews Protested at N. Y. Mass Meeting The American Jewish Committee and seven _other national organizations joined with the American Jew- ish Conference in sponsorng a mass meeting in New York City's Madison Square Park on July 31 to protest deportations and slaughter of Hungary's 750,000 Jews.
