In . a letter addressed to the
Chief Executive and Mr. Hull,
Mrs. Joseph M. Welt, of Detroit,
president of the Council, said
"this plan in no way departs
from national immigration pol-
icy" and pointed out that "if all
Americans are made fully aware
that failure to act in time is
equivalent to participation in
wholesale murder, there can be
no doubt that national opinion
will demand instant opening of
sufficient ports of refuge . . In
this vast free country, several
millions of people could be easi-
ly accommodated for a brief
period, and the 'American people
would be willing to accept hun-
dreds of thousands of refugees,
especially since they know that
these unhappy victims will be
returned to their homelands or
resettled as soon as conditions
permit."

Mrs. Zena Ehrlich had been

projects for more than 40 years.
She was among the leaders in
the women's group in behalf of
the Jewish hospital movement
here 35 years ago.
But her major activity was in
behalf of the Jewish .National
Fund. She was the sole collector,
of the JNF Blue and White
Box-es for many years, and many
people refused to turn their
boxes over to any one but her,
until after the formation of the
Jewish National Fund Council,
She cooperated with the Coun-
cil and continued her box col-
lection work until she was pre-
vented to carry on her work
due to her age. She died July
23 at the age of 90.
