Curbing Anti-Semitism
With City Officials

Five Protestant ministers this
week conferred with Mayor Jef-
fries and Police Commissioner
Ballenger regarding the problem
of anti-Semitism. These minis-
ters.. representing, between 50 and
60 clergy in this area, told the
city officials that they wanted
to .cooperate in establishing bet-
ter. relations among the various
racial groups_ and creeds in this .
area. The ministers acted as the
Regional Action Group of The
Protestant.
The delegation included the
Reverends T. M. Pullman, Ells-
worth Smith, Philip B. Lewis,
Henry J. Simpson and William
H. Molbon.
Mayor Jeffries declared that
education would aid in solving
the problem and said that clergy
could do much to soften racial
prejudices, and added that he
feared the economic problem
might become more acute after
the war as 13,000,00 . men have
been taught to hate and kill
and it may be difficult to curb
their passions of hatred.
