The Week's Best Stories

She Knew About Hess
A story in Tit-Bits shows that
the Luxembourgers' .defiance of
the Nazis extends to the children.
At -school a little girl was ask-
ed by the Nazi teacher who was
the greatest figure in the modern
history of the country.
"The Grand Duchess Char-
lotte," replied the child.
The Nazi was annoyed. ,How-
ever, he tried again. .
"But Who was it that fled the
country, leaving them to fight
their own battles?" he demand-
ed.
The little girl could answer
that one, too.
"Rudolf Hess," she said.

Round-Headed Nazis
Revert to Type
It was related in Prague when
the Russian winter offensive was
at its height, • that Hitler, after
all, succeeded in realizing one. of
his most Cherished ideals. The
Russian campaign for which his
now famous 'intuition was mainly
responsible as related . by the
Czechs in their "gallows -humor"
manner — produced a remark-
able and most desirable improve-
ment in the German race. All the
Germans are reverting physical-
ly to the pure Nordic type. No
more roundheads among them!
In Prague at least, according to
Czech • observers, all Germans,
including the most roundheaded
Sudetens, have long faces which
grow longer after every import
coming from the Eastern front.

Catholic Weekly Condemns
Synagogue Vandalism
KINGSTON, Ontario (JPS)—
The attempt of incendiaries to
burn down the new Quebec syn-
agogue on the eve of its dedica-
tion is condemned by the Cana-
dian Register, official Catholic
weekly for the Provinces of
Toronto and Kingston. "Even if,
as we believe, the crime is to ,be
ascribed to a gang of hooligans,
the fact must be faced that there
is 'something rotten in the state
of- Denmark' when the mentality
of even rowdies can become so
twisted," the Register states.

destiny and. eternity of the Jews

in the constancy and rejuvena-
tion of its scholarShip." •

Reading the personality sketch
of William Rosenberg in the June
9 issue of The Jewish News,
David A. Brown, nationally fa-
mous Jewish leader who is now
temporarily in Los Angeles,
wrote Mr. Rosenberg an interest-
ing note reminiscing about their
childhood in Detroit.
Mr. Brown writes that when
he came , across the item about
Milton M. Weinstein being elect-
ed president of Pisgah Lodge, he
began to reminisce about his for-
mer friends and Rosenberg's
name came to mind.
"For some unaccountable rea-
son," he writes in his letter, "you
came into my mind and I was
carried back to the days my fam-
ily lived on Montcalm near Hast-
ings and you were a regular vis-
itor in that neighborhood, also
many other episodes during the
period' in which we were seeing
a bit of each other. Then I went
through the paper, and there you
were—the same good looking
sinily Will Rosenberg that I knew
long ago."
