You know my record.
I have always been among the first in Congress
to sponsor legislation to alleviate Jewish suffering.
Even a cursory glance at my record will show
you that I am not a friend who appeared on the
scene when the Nazis began to destroy Jewish life.
I was among the first in this country to de-
mand that Poland adhere to the Minorities Treaty
clause and honor the rights that were pledged to
the Jews.
I have appeared on your platforms in behalf
of a Jewish National Home 20 years ago.
I am one of the first Christian Balfour Zionists
who spoke for justice for the Jews, just as I spoke
for justice for all faiths and races.

Express Shock at
U.S. Anti-Semitism
NEW YORK (JPS) — English
boys, 12 to 16, who were evac-
uated to the U. S. during the
1940 blitz and now returned to
England, expressed shock and be-
wilderment over racial and re-
ligious discrimination which they
found in this country, reports
Stanley Frank, New York Post
war correspondent.
One of the evacuees, William
Elmhurst, 15, who attended Exe-
ter Academy in New Hampshire
for two years, was astonished by-
American preoccupation with the
Jewish question. "The only thing
I didn't like about Exeter was
the invisible barrier that was set
up against Jewish boys," he said.
