THE JEWISH NEWS
JNF Erects Memorial Bench in Honor
Of the Late Sylvia Simons of Detroit
to the Hebrew University and
the Hadassah Hospital have been
erected on the land donated by
Mr. and Mrs. Simons. Elias M.
Epstein, a member of the direc-
torate of the Jewish National
Fund, writes from Jerusalem:
"For your information, may I
add that the gift of -land from
Mr. Simons was in shares of
quite a number of separate plots.
Hence, we were unable to place
a plaque in any building erected
on this site, seeing that the area
he had bought and donated to us
was made up of scattered parcels.
"Hence the arrangement of
the bench in the gardens, creat-
ing a happy arrangement. With
the plants and flowers which
have been laid out, the spot is
exceedingly pleasant. Seated on
the bench one faces the wonder-
ful panorama of the city of Je-
rusalem which is unobscured
over the valley which divides
Mount Scopus from Mount
Sinai."
Mrs. Simons was deeply moved
when she was informed this
week of the tribute accorded the
memory of her daughter, Sylvia,
and when she was shown the
photographs reproduced here.
She expressed gratitude for this
mark- of respect shown her late
daughter and husband, and she
stated that the contributions her
family had made towards Pal-
estine's redemption have been
among her life's most pleasant-
experiences.
Party for Grandson
Mrs. Samuel Lewin-Epstein, of
Jerusalem,' sister-in-law of Dr.
and Mrs. A. M. Hershman, has
been helpful in arranging plans
for the establishment of the
Ohel Sarah in Haifa.
Mrs. Lewin-Epstein recently
reported that a holiday party
was arranged at the Ohel Sarah
Nursery in honor of Israel Brodie
Simons, grandson of Mrs. D. W.
Simons and son of Mr. and Mrs.
Nathan Simons.

depression interfered with these
plans. On his second visit to Pal-
