Luncheon, June 27

Ladies Auxiliary of Yeshivath
Chachmey Lubin will hold its
second annual donor luncheon,
Tuesday, June 27, in the Bnai
Moshe Synagogue, Defter and
Lawrence.
Mrs. Isadore Levin is chair-
man, of the luncheon. For res-

Mrs. J. S. Sperka will be•toast

music and entertainment has

Beth Jacob to Expand
Program Ne-Xt Fall

At the closing exercises of
Beth. Jacob School, on June 13,
at the Taylor-Wilson Synagogue,
a program was presented by the
Dexter and 12th St. branches,
depicting the work completed
during the year . in Hebrew,
Bible, Jewish History, prayers,
and religious observances.

and principal of the Beth Jacob
Girls' School, announced that an
expanded program will b e
launched with the opening of
the fall term . in September.

Shaarey Zedek Library
Sets July-August Hours

The Library Board of Congre-
gation Shaarey Zedek, at a meet-
ing held on Monday evening,'
decided on the following library
hours for July and August:
The library will be open daily,
Mondays through Thursdays, 10
a. m. to 1 p. m. and 6 to 8 p. m.,
and 10 a. m. to 1 p. m. on Fridays.
An extensive educational pro-
gram is planned by the library
to include lectures and . book re-
views.
The entire community is in-
vited to make use of the library's
facilities. The most important
hooks in English, Yiddish and

Carolyn Friendship Club pro-
vides cookies each month for the
Great Lakes Club Wednesday
parties. Current Topics Study
Club will contribute cookies for
seven weeks to the USO Lounge
at the Jewish Center.
Jewish Fraternal Club, will
sponsor a social evening once a
month at the Center USO
Lounge.
Contributions have been re-
ceived from Bnai Brith - Theodore
Herzl Lodge and Milton A. Bres-
ler.
A group of hostesses from
Odessa Progressive- Aid Society
served at the Downtown USO on
June 12.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold H. Smilay

I Mizrachi Re-Elects

Mizrachi Organization of De-
Volt re-elected IrvineW. Schlus-
sel as president at its annual
meeting June 15.
Max- Kaminski, Isidor Sosnick
and Jacob Nosanchuk were chos-
en as vice-presidents; Meyer
Beckman, treasurer; Sol Lum-
berg, executive secretary; Isaac
Rosenthal and Daniel Temchin,
honorary presidents.
It was announced at the meet-
ing that the administrative .com-
mittee and the national Vaad
Hapoel of the Mizrachi Organiza-
tion of America have decided
that Mizrachi should begin an in-
tensive educational campaign
throughout the U. S. to improve
and spread religious orthodox ed-
ucation by aiding in the estab-
lishment of parochial schools, as
well as to help raise the spiritual
standard of the Talmud Torahs.
A quarter of a million dollars
will be sought in the country to
carry out this educational pro-
gram.

Seeks Nephew Here

Harry Cohen, president of Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek, this
week received a communication
form S. Strauss, Carrera 16 32/00,
Bogota, Colombia, South Amer-
ica, which reads:
"The son of my brother, Her-
bert Seligman, medical dentist,
native of Geestemunde, 33 years,
is living in your city since 1937.
We are anxious to hear from him.
He may be in the Ariny now. In
that case, will his wife 'please
write to us." The letter is signed
Sally Strauss, ROsel Geboren
Seligman. •

Mr. Goldstein, an attorney,
served for three years as presi-
dent of the Men's Club. Pos-
sessed of a rich Jewish educa-
tion, he often officiated at the
pulpit when Rabbi Leon Fram
was absent from the city. He
was born in Detroit, and he is
a member of an old Detroit.

vice-president; Benjamin E. Jaf-
fe, secretary; Max Osnos, treas-
urer. The following were added
to the board: Edward -Bern-

and Morris Garvett.
The congregation honored Mr.
Garvett for his successful pilot

Mr. Thal for his devoted serv-
ice to the building fund.
• It was announced that Fred
H. Gottfurcht was appointed
chairman of the building fund
campaign. .
The Sisterhood announced that
it was gathering a special fund
for a room in the future build-
ing of Temple Israel, to be
known as the Morris Garvett
Lounge.
In his annual message to the
congregation Rabbi Fram urged
the congregation to complete the
building fund so that Temple
Israel might proceed with the
construction of its House of
Worship after X!Day.

Traverse City Religious
School Open During Summer
Final exams at; - the Bethel Re-
ligious School in Traverse City
were conducted June 14 by. Dr.
Selig S. Auerbach, Circuit Rabbi
for North.&n Michigan. Helene
Lazarus passed with honors.
Religious School will be con-
tinued- 1 throughout the summer.
Duririg July and August classes
will • be conducted weekly, in=
