NEW YORK (JTA)—A series
of resolutions demanding . full
economic, political and cultural
equality for the Jews of Poland
after the war was adopted this
week by 400 delegates attending
the 35th annual convention of
the American Federation of Po-
lish Jews here. The resolutions
demand:
1. Right of Jews to participate
in. all economic activities and
professions and to secure . gov-
ernment employment;
2. Cultural autonomy f o r
Jews, to be secured by the for-
mation of an autonomous feder-
ation of Jewish communities
which will have the authority
to regulate the internal affairs
of Jewish life;
3. CancellatiOn by the Polish
government of confiscations et
transfers of Jewish property
which occurred during the Ger-
man occupation.
4. .Full implementation of
legislation restoring - Polish citi-
zenship;
5. Legislation making anti-
Semitism a crime against the
State.
The resolution also decried
any suggestions ' for evacuation
of Jews froth. Poland after the
war and asked representation on
the commission to try- war
criminals.
- Delegates heard a message
from President Roosevelt. The
President said: "The problems
which confront you in the noble
work of rehabilitation of the
Polish Jewry provide a chal-
lenge, the poignancy of which
fills men's hearts with a deter-
mination so deep and strong
that despite all odds the efforts
will continue until the liberation
of these innocent people is
achieved."
Sunday the delegates attend-
ed services for Benjamin Win-
ter, president of the federation.
Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum of New
York was elected president.

United Seamen Heroes
In Wax Town Broadcast

"Molly Malone," a United Sea-
men's Service story, will be
broadcast over radio station WWJ
on-Monday at 1:45 p. m. This is
the fourth in a 13-week War
Town radio series being present-
ed to show the work of the
United Seamen's Service and
other agencies in the National
War Fund included in the De-
troit War Chest, to give fiid to
our boys overseas and here at
home.
Celeste Holm, appearing in the
Broadway stage play "Okla-
homa," and Victor Jory also ap-
pearing on Broadway, will take
part in this program. The story
tells of a seaman who suffers
amnesia after a shipwreck and
spends more than three weeks in
a lifeboat.

Roosevelt Praises
Negro Music Event
Coming Here July 12

Miss Speacks

Music, enter the second week of
music - and visiting stars this Sat-
urday evening with a third and
equally empressive performance
scheduled for Wednesday, June
28, at University of Detroit Sta-
dium.
Margaret Speacks and Conrad
Thibault will be guest singers,
and Sigmund Romberg conduct-
ing Saturday night. Oscar Le-
vant, pianist and exponent of
Gershwin, and Karl Krueger,
symphony director, will feature
Wednesday's program.
Romberg will direct a program
of well-known orchestral and
vocal works Saturday.

President Franklin D. Roose-
velt, in commenting on the Fifth
Annual American Negro, Music
Festival said:
- "The presentation of the Fifth
Annual American Negro Music
Festival in three cities this year
should do more than create a
better understanding between
our own racial groups. It should
also accentuate the irreconcilable
difference between the American
people and those who would de-
stroy culture everywhere."
This year's presentation of the
Festival will be held in Chicago
on July 8; St. Louis on July 10,
and Detroit on July 12. at Briggs
Stadium. Tickets may be secured
at Grinnell 'Bros. box office, 1515
Woodward.

Methodists Demand
Zionism's Fulfillment

NEW YORK—A resolution
calling on the United States to
take "appropriate action" so that
the "international commitments
made to the Jews in connection
'with a homeland in Palestine
may be fulfilled at the earliest
possible time," was adopted un-
animously by the Northeastern
Jurisdictional Conference of the
Methodist Church, representing
more than -a million members of
the Methodist Church in New
England, New York, Pennsylva-
nia, Maryland, New Jersey and
Delaware, it was announced by
Dr. Daniel L. Marsh, president
of Boston University, who intro-
duced the resolution.

3,250 Communities in U. S.
Give Half of 32 Million

Goal in 5 Months

More than half of the $32,000,-
000 quota of the nationwide cam-

paign for worldwide rescue and
rehabilitation carried on by the
United Jewish Appeal for Ref-
ugees, Overseas Needs and Pales-
tine was raised in the first five
months of 1944 by 3,250 Jewish
communities throughout the
country, it was reported Friday
at a meeting of the executive
committee of the UJA at the
Biltmore Hotel, New York.

Asserting that, the Jews of the
U. S. have responded generouslm
to the. United Jewish Appeal, the
executive committee stressed the
fact that even greater needs

would face the. United Jewish
Appeal in the immediate future.
Ambng the major tasks con-
fronting the UJA is the provision
of funds for the removal of 5,000
children from France and a sim-
ilar number from the Balkans to
havens of safety. The executive
committee called special atten-
tion to the desperate situation of
the 800,000 Jews in Hungary who
-are now being subjected to ruth-
less persecution by the Nazis. -
