tion of Detroit; Marked Increases in Membership

At the annual meeting of the Zionist Organization of De-
troit, held Tuesday evening at the Shaarey Zedek, Rabbi
Leon Fram was elected president to succeed Abraham Cooper.
Rabbi Morris Adler, who is now serving as Chaplain in
the U. S. Army Rhoads General Hospital, 'Utica, N. Y., Harry
Cohen and Walter Field were elected vice-presidents; Abe
Kasle, secretary; James I.

Submit Annual Reports
Annual reports were submit-
ted at this meeting by Mr.
Cooper, who pointed to the cul-
tural _progress . attained during
the year, the 'efforts made to
secure governmental support of
the Jewish National Home's
status in Palestine and the co-
operation . with other Zionist
groups in the city.
In his report, which was read
to the meeting in his absence by
Judge Charles RUbiner, who pre-
sided, Mr. Cooper reviewed the
activities of the past year and
expressed his gratitude to his
many co-workers for their loyal
support.
More Than 2,400 Members
Mr. Cooper called upon the
Detroi Zionists to share with
him his faith that the move-
ment's goals will be attained
soon. He urged them to co-
operate with his successor and
to do everything in their power
to help realize the aim of estab-
lishing a Jewish National Home
in Palestine.
Of particular interest was the
report of Harry Cohen, chairman
of the membership committee,
through whose efforts more than
800 new members were enrolled
during the year, boosting t h e
total membership in the organi-
zatien above the 2,400 mark.
Aid Junior Groups
Walter Field reported that
youth activities are. progressing
and that the '2ionist lOrganiza-.
tion is extending assistance to
junior groups within the move-
ment.
Mr. Field also reported' as
chairman of the program com-
mittee and reviewed the numer-
ous cultural events that were
sponsored during the past year.
He commended Mr. Cooper for
his efficient work as president
and for his efforts during the
past 12 years as chairman of the
Balfour Balls.
In appreciation of the services
rendered -by Mr. Cooper as-presi-
dent of the Zionist Organization
of Detroit for two years and as
chairman of the committees
which arranged the Balfour Bails
since their inception; and as an
expression of thanks for the
Services rendered by Mr. Cohen
as chairman of successful mem-
bership drives during the past
two years, gifts were presented
to them by their fellow-members
of the board of directors.

and . COhen in behalf of the Zion- .

theme of the Moshava is Chalut-
ziuth (Jewish up-building of
Palestine), and study programs
and activities have been planned
with this subject • in view.
