The World Adventure Series was organized in 1933 to help popularize the Detroit Institute of Arts and bring new people to its galleries and exhibitions. A non-profit corporation, it has in the past contributed substantial- ly to the budget of the Museum's educational department. These concerts, sponsored by the Grinnell Music Foundation, will take place On Wednesday and Saturday evenings through July 12. To commemorate "D-D ay" and the present European in- vasion, Karl Krueger has pro-. grammed the Beethoven Fifth Symphony, so familiar to Allied patriots during World War II for its, "dot-dot-dot-dash" open- ing. Henry H. Reichhold, president of the Detroit Symphony's board of directors, has announced the raising of the budget for the orchestra's 1944-45 season to $600,000 over the $300,000 used for the musicians last season. This has been necessary because there have been scheduled two series of 20 concerts each on Thursday and Saturday nights. American Negro Music Festival Here on July 12 Great -Stars Will Perform at Briggs Stadium Before 50,000 The American Negro Music Festival, which for four years has played to throngs in Chicago, this year will be given •ft Detroit and St. Louis. It is expected that such stars of stage, screen and radio, as Lena Horne, Paul Robeson, Pia Igy, Hazel Scott, Ethel Waters and Duke Ellington will perform at Briggs Stadium on July 12. The sponsors, a non-profit cor- poration whose entire proceeds go to Army and Navy. Emer- gency Relief, expect an - attend- ance of 50,000.- • Ambitious amateurs from De- troit and. nearby cities will be invited to participate in • t h e Search-for-Talent Contest.
