I- read a piece somewhere recently about a woman who cashed in three
thousand dollars' worth of gilt-edge, 14-carat U. S. War Bonds to buy a mink_
coat at one of the local emporiums. A reporter found out she had a son of
24 in the Air Corps, bombing Berlin twice a week.
How do you like that?
This dizzy dame completely failed to see any connection between the
two. It never occurred to her that, by taking back tier money, she was taking
bullets out of her son's guns, gas out of his tank, bread out of his mouth!
The big push is here. The same reasons exist today for KEEPING our
bonds as existed when we bought 'em originally. We're still threatened by
two vicious enemies—and, like all wild beasts, they're twice-over dangerous
when they're wounded.
To do the job right, still -takes dough—more money than the world ever
thought of a few years ago—$250,000,000,000. -Whew! It staggers me to think
of it!
So what kind of people would cripple. Uncle Samuel now, of all times,
when he's coming to grips with the toughest hoodlums he's ever faced? What
would our boys who are giving arms,,legs, eyes. and even their lives think
of it if we welch on the piddling little LOANS WE'VE made to do-.the job?
Loans we get top interest on, too?
Not me. I'd go without - eating first. Just as surely as I wouldn't pull the
;un out of my brother's hand while a Jap is charging toward him, 1 won't cash
in those bonds.
Not me. I'm no Indian-giver . .

INVASION SIDELIGHTS
The British Cabinet has finally reach-
ed . a decision with regard to Palestine
. And Zionist leaders in the United
States who have gotten wind of it claim
that they have . good reason to be satis-
fied . .. Nothing will be disclosed -about
it while the invasion of Europe develops,
but as the military situation becomes
more. -settled, hints of what Britain has
in mind with regard to Palestine will
gradually _.be :thrown out.
Judging from the Nazi broadcasts one
must come to the conclusion that while
Hitler is worried over the progress of the
Allied invasion, he cannot . forgive the
Allies for the fact that a Brooklyn Jew-
ish boy commanded the first wave of
small assault boats that set the American
troops ashore in Franc'e . . This boy,

TALES FROM MOSCOW
Prof. Mikhoels who visited this coun-

try as a member of the Jewish cultural
delegation from Russia is telling the fol-
lowing story in .Moscow . . While in
Chicago with Col. Itzik Feffer, the other
member of the delegation, he discovered .
that he had a rich -uncle there . . . The
uncle, a Manufacturer of gloves, came to
visit. him and was impressed with his
newly-discovered nephew . . . "What .are
you doing for • a . living in Russia," he
asked him- . "I am an actor!" Mikhoels
replied . . "An actor; "the uncle sneer-
ed, 'that is no profession for a fellow
like you. Why clOn't you remain here-
and I'll make you the vice-president of
My _firm!" . "But uncle," the embar-
rassed Mikhoels said, "I could not think
of remaining in America. My comrade
Feffer and I are here on a mission, and -
I certainly would not leave him alon,e!"
. "I see your point!" the good-natured
uncle smiled. "Of course, it is not my
habit to expand the payroll of my firm
by putting on relatives, but. for your
sake I shall also give your friend Feffer
a good job. in .my business" . . • And of
all the hard jobs Mikhoels faced during
his visit in this country, the hardest was
not to insult his generous uncle . . The
practical-minded uncle could not under-
stand why . Mikhoels and Feffer should
be. bent on going beck to Moscow when
they were offered such an exceptional
opportunity in Chicago:
