Arnold Friedman was a postal
clerk for 37 years in New York
and is now retired on.a pension.
During that period, he was a
spare-time painter and studied
in night school under Robert
Henri. George Bellows, Rock-
well Kent and Guy Pene Du-
Bois were fellow students.
Now, past 60, Friedman has
definitely arrived in the' art
world. In 1940, the Metropoli-
tan Museum of Art in New
York purchased his oil painting,
"Unemployable." His work is
also included in the collections
of the Museum of Modern Art,
the Newark Museum and the
Phillips Memorial Gallery.
His most recent one-man show
was held in New York in April
at the Marquie Gallery.
