IJJA Helps Save Children From Balkans

Hundreds of refugee children, many of them orphaned by Nazi oppression, have
recently reached Pale§tine Trom the Balkans through the aid of the agencies of the
United Jewish Appeal 'for Refugees, Overseas Needs and Palestine. The Joint Distribu-
ton Committee has provided the funds for their transportation. The United Palestine
Appeal has made possible their rehabilitation following. their arrival in the Jewish
homeland. Photo shows a group of refugee children on thegrounds of the immigrants'
; hostel at Haifa. Children coming to the United States are assisted by the National Refugee
Service. American Jews are now seeking to provide additional resources through the
instrumentality of the $32,000,000 U.J.A; drive, for the cwrtinued rescue and reconstruc-
tion of a maximum number of refugees from Hitler-dominated Europe.

The first anniversary of the Battle of the
I Warsaw Ghetto will be commemorated in
Detroit at a public meeting at Cass Techni-
1 cal High School on Wednesday evening,
June 7.

Archbishop Edward Mooney, Rabbi Mau-
rice Eisendrath, executive director of the

Americyas Hebrew Congregations,:

and Mayor Edward J. Jeffries will be the
speakers at this rally.
A dramatization of the historical events
which preceded the heroic battle in which a
comparative handful of Jews fought against
the Nazis will precede the program.
This rally was arranged by the Jewish
Community Council. James I. Ell:mann,
Council president, will open the program.
