As means of mobilizing the
community in efforts against the
spread of racial hatred, - the De-
troit Section of the Council of
Jewish Women will sponsor - an
Institute on Race Relations next
Monday, at the Jewish Com-
munity Center.
Starting with registration of
those attending, at 10:30 a. m.,
the Cranbrook exhibit on "The
Races of Mankind" will be
shown and will be followed by
a luncheon.
Mrs. Joseph M. Welt, national
Council president, will welcome
the guests. Mrs. Hershel V.
Kreger, president of the Detroit
Section, will speak at the lunch-
eon.
Speakers at the program will
include Dr. Robert Hatt, who
will present the major theme,
"The Races of Mankind"; Rob-
ert E. Hayden, of the University
of Michigan faculty; Dr. Edward
C. Jandy, professor of sociology
at Wayne University; Oliver La-
grone, Detroit sculptor; Hughie
Lee Smith, Detroit artist; Dr.
Mentor Williams, professor of
English at t h e University of
Michigan; Mrs. Beulah T. Whit-
by of the Mayor's Inter-Racial
Committee.
The program was arranged by
the committee on social legisla-
tion, Mrs. Harry Stocker and
Mrs. Samuel Linden, co-chair-
men. Mrs. H. J. L. Frank is
chairman of the luncheon com-
mittee.

Mrs. Guggenheim Dies
NEW YORK (JPS) — Mrs
Florence S h 1 o s s Guggenheim,
widow of Daniel Guggenheim,
leader in the copper industry,
died from the effects of a heart
attack at her home here. She was
a member of Congregation
Emanu-El and Pk- 20 years was
treasurer and trustee of the
Emanu-El sisterhood.

Senior Places Available
A record demand closed reg-
istration for the Fresh Air Camp
less than a week after the open-
ing date, May 1.
With the exception of several
places in the Senior Boys' Unit,
ages '13-16, every period was
filled and an overflow of ap-
pointments accepted _ through
May 15. The system of regis-
tration by appointment only was
instituted to insure equitable
treatment of all requests.
All parents having interviews
scheduled for this week are ad-

of the Jewish Community Cen-
ter, since any • new openings
will occur through cancellations
