For D-Day Services

Temple Beth El this week
announced the following plan
for the proposed D-Day ser-
vices:
In the event news of the
invasion of Europe by Allied
forces comes before 6 p. m.,
services at Temple Beth El
will be held at 8 p. m. that
day.
If the news of the invasion
arrives after .6 .p. m., the spe-
cial services will be held at
8 p- m. the following day.

Shevuoth Broadcast

On Sunday Morning

Rabbi Joshua S. Sperka of
Congregation Bnai David, will
broadcast a Shevuoth sermon
over radio station WWJ • on Sun-
day at 8:45 a. m. on•.the topic
"The Message of 'Shevuoth to a
World at War."
This series of the Jewish Radio
Pulpit have been inaugurated by
Radio Station WWJ one year ago,
with Rabbi Sperka •as speaker.
The talk on Shevuoth will com-
plete the first year of these holi-
day sermons.

Youth Choir of Temple Israel
High School, conducted by Can-

W. Haas, will render a special
musical program..
Sheldon Rose, son of Mr. and
Mrs. 7,dward Rose, will be vale-
dictorian. The diplomas will be
awarded by Morris Garvett,_,
president of the . congregation.
Special honors will be • awarded
by Arthur J. Haas, chairman' of
'the school board. The annual
Morris Garvett Leadership
Medal will be awarded to Shel-

most four years of distinguished
service to the institution and to
the Detroit Jewish community.

Young Israel of Detroit, Michi-
gan Synagogue Conference, La-
dies of the Yeshivah and faculty.
Rabbi Weiss thanked the ad-
ministration and members of the
Yeshivah for the cooperation he
received during his service here.
He is going to New York to head
a newly founded national edu-
cational institution.
The reception was preceded by
the annual membership meeting,
Presided over by Rabbi M. J.
Wohlgelernter. The financial re-
port was presented by the treas-
urer, Louis Levin, . who an-
nounced that the expanded
budget due to the unprecedented
development of the institution,
has been met thanks to the Un-
tiring 'efforts of officers and di-
rectors. Rabbi Moses Fischer,
chairman' of the bbard of edu-
cation. of the Yeshivah, reported
on the advancement of all 275
students now attending the Ye-
shivah.
Rabbi Simcho Waserman, suc-
cessor of Rabbi Weiss as dean
of the institution', was introduced
to the membership.
Rabbi Wasserman was 'unani-
mously elected at a recent meet-
ing of the board of education.
He is the son of the _illustrious
Gaon and Dean of the Barnano-
-witch Yeshivah (Poland), Rabbi
•Elchanan 'Wasserman, • and has
established for himself the repu-
tation' of an able Rosh .Yeshivah
