National Workers' Alliance is
making progress in its drive to
enlist 50 new members on the
occasion of its 10th anniversary,
Morris L. Schaver, president, an-
nounced this week.
The 10th anniversary celebra,
tion will be held at the Lee Plaza
Hotel on Sunday evening, June
11. Principal speakers will in-;
elude Louis Siegel, national sec-
retary of the Farband; . Isaac
Hamlin, national secretary of the
Gewerkshaften, and other prom-
inent leaders.
An anniversary book is being
published on the. occasion of this
event.
Harry Schumer, one of the
leaders of the Arlazaroff branch,
announces that on the occasion of
this anniversary a Bond drive
will be concluded for the pur - .
chase • of a Hospital Ship. More
than $150,000 of Bonds were al-
ready sold for this purpose.
Farband Camp

. Farband Camp and Kinder-
welt, founded --15. years ago by
the labor Zionist movement of
Detroit as a summer home for
young and old, is preparing for-
its 16th season, to start -on June
25 and . to continue for a period
of nine weeks.
Boys and girls, 6 to 15, a r e
being . accepted e'i t h e r for the
full camp season or for shorter
periods. •
The camp is located on Long
Lake, near Chelsea. in Wash-
tenaw County, amidst beautiful
surroundings.
Farband Camp's program is
noted for its Jewish content. The
Jewish atmosphere created for
campers has won national rec-
ognition among similar camps.

Mr. and Mrs. I. Hoffman of
2231 N. LaSalle Gardens, have
been informed • that their son,
Sgt. William M: Hoffman, pre-
viously reported missing in ac-
tion, is a German prisoner of
war. He was captured in:Jan-
uary while serving in the infan-
try during the Italian campaign.
A graduate of Northern. High,
Sgt. Hoffman attended Wayne
University and has been in serv-
ice 18 months.
In a recent letter from prison
camp he told of the great job
being done . by the Red Cross
and how much it is appreciated
by the boys. He is 22 and was
a member of the Trylons and
the Jewish Center.
Another son, Lt. Max • Hoff-
man, entered service soon after
Pearl Harbor and is ..now- sta-
tioned in the medical corps as
transportation officer of a sta-
tion hospital in the South Pa-
cific.
Mail from him tells how well
the American. soldiers get- - along
with the natives, trading trinkets
with them . for luxury food. He
writes about the boys buying an
ice cream machine from the
States, but forgetting to get a
machine for ice. However, they
have ordered back for one and
it won't • be -.long before they
have ice cream. •
- He also mentions how the boys
rushed for coconuts upon first
reaching the island, drinking the
milk and eating the meat. One
of the island's dangers, - he says,
is being hit by failing coconuts.
Lt. Hoffinan is a graduate of
Northern High and Wayne Uni-
versity, where he majored , in
political science. He is 31 and
was formerly a member of the
Jewish Center and a teacher in
the Detroit public schools.

Detroit Chapter of Junior Ha-
dassah will hold its Mother and.
Daughter tea Sunday, at 2:30, at
the Rose Sittig Cohen Bldg. The
meeting will be utilized to out-
line the purpose, scope and ac-
tivities of Hadassah.
A slate of new officers will be
presented at this meeting.
A comedy, "Rifka Gets Her
Man," will be staged by the dra-
matic group under the direction
of Miss Lillian Greenhut. T h e
cast includes . Alyse Geer, Eve-
lyn Rose, Florence Cooperman
and Eve Goldberg. Miss Hilda
Biederman is in charge of re-
freshments.
Girls interested in joining Ju-
nior Hadassah are invited to
this event. The 50-cent admission

His younger brother, Capt.
Harold Louis Stralser, has • been
acclaimed for many accomplish-
ments in service. A graduate of
Central High School, he studied
at Walsh Accountancy School.
He has been in service since
January, 1944, and during his
overseas duties completed 25
bombing missions. He is at -
present stationed at Monroe, La.,
where he is being trained- as an
instructor.

Last November, Capt. Harold
Stralser was in the public lime-
light and was singled out for
honors as navigator of "Romance
2." Although he and his co-pilot .
were wounded by anti-aircraft,
fire,- they brought the Flying -
Fortress home from a raid over
Gelsenkirchen. Although the flak
had - cut -into the instrument
panel, Stralser and his co-pilot,
Lt. Martin Downey of Los An-
geles, kept the plane on its
course.
