killed in action in Italy on Feb.

Mathis came to America from
Lithuania in April, 1940, and en-
tered active service in March,
1941. Among the first to land in
North Africa, he was wounded
slightly and soon thereafter re-
turned to active duty.

A brother, David, 36, is with
the U. S. Army in England.

U. S. Marine Corps, is convales-

Hospital, near Chicago, after
