ers, heads of one of the best
known auto supply buusinesses
'in the state, have risen to the
ranks of Captains in the Army.

fellow soldiers at Percy Jones
General Hospital at Battle Creek
say of_ Pvt. Zalman Lopata, a
refugee from Poland who has re-
turned from the battleground of
Anzio, Italy.
Some will say that for him the
war is over. But it isn't, despite
the fact that the youth, who came
alone from Poland in 1938 to find
a home in Detroit, left . a leg on
the Anzio beachhead as his per-
sonal sacrifice.
Pfc. Lopata, who lived at 1664
ElmArst until he was inducted
in January, 1943, is through with
the war as a soldier, but he hopes
soon to have a new leg in time so
that he may enter some sort of
war work.
The 24-year-old Jewish soldier,
who speaks almost perfect Eng-
lish which he learned in. night
schools since he came to Detroit,
keeps hoping that maybe his par-
ents, his brothers and sisters are
still alive in Poland. He has had
no word from them since the
Nazis ravishedPoland..
