William Hordes, president of
the Jewish National Fund Coun-
cil of Detroit, announced this
week that the annual clearance
of J. N. F. Blue and White Boxes
will be _ conducted by National
Fund workers from April 16 to
30.

Mrs. A. Twersky, chairman of
the J. N. F. Box Committee, is
again in charge of box collections,
and has the co-operation of all
Zionist groups in the city.

It is urged that those who have
boxes to be cleared and volunteer
workers communicate regarding
the forthcoming collections with -
the J. N. F. office, 11608 Dexter,
TO. 8-8658. -

Mr. Hordes also announces that
copies of Pierre Van Passen's
book "The Forgotten Ally" are
available at the J. N. F. office.

Isadore Ressler, prominent De-
troit artist, celebrates his 75th
birthday this year.
The year 1944 also marks the
30th anniversary of• his coming to
this city, and his love for this
community causes him to consid-
er the shorter anniversary as im-
portant as his 75th birthday.
In spite of his age, he is as
much the artist today that he was
a generation ago. He loves the
very touch of the canvass and al-
though. he belongs to the old
school he is a friend of the new
masters.
Born in Geneva, Switzerland,
in •1869, he settled in Canada in
1887 and resided there for 29
years. He has been a member of
Temple Beth El since coming to
Detroit.
He was married in Montreal in
1894. His wife passed away last
year. There are five children.
In Montreal Mr. Ressler was
associated as an artist and in the
promotion departments, on the
staffs of Montreal La Presse and
Montreal Daily Herald.
He studied in Germany and

was sent to Leipzig as a boy to
study drawing and painting with
Leopold Berger, and later with
another German master, Rudolph
Reschetler.
Among his many paintings are
Canadian scenes, impressions of
streets in Montreal and Quebec,
landscapes studies, still-life works
and other paintings.
He has exhibited his works not
only in Detroit and in Montreal
but also in Tampa, Fla., Washing-
ton, D. C., San Diego, Calif., Ann
Arbor, Grand Rapids and other
cities.
In St. Petersburg, Fla., he ex-
hibited his works and acted as
judge in an artists' contest.

Stollman, spiritual leader of
Mishkan Israel Synagogue. Theo-
dore Baruch, a member of the
Alumni of the United Hebrew
Schools, will extend greetings.

have its program with Dr. B.
Benedict Glazer of Temple Beth
El as principal speaker. Parents
of the school will be represented
by Mr. Slomovitz and Mrs. Sid-
ney Marwil. Greetings will also
be extended by two pupils of the
school, a boy and a girl, and by
Herzl Shur, a member of the
Alumni. The program will also
feature musical selections.

week's celebration is the dinner
on Sunday. evening, April 23, in
the social hall of Shaarey Zedek.
The guest speaker will be Dr.
Emanuel- Gamoran of Cincinnati.
The members of the Woman's
Auxiliary will act as hostesses
and are also in charge of decora-
tions.
Aaron Silberblatt is general
chairman of the 25th anniversary
celebration. Fred M. Butzel is
honorary chairman; Judge Wil-
liam Friedman, toastmaster of
the banquet. Rudolph Zuieback
is president of the schools.
