Americans were urged to combat anti-Semi-
tism and to aid victims of anti-Semitism in
Europe, in a statement made by Governor
Thomas E. Dewey of New York, on accepting
a specially bound volume of "The Black Book
of Polish Jewry" published by the American
Federation of Polish Jews. The "Black Book"
is a compilation of facts and photographs re-
vealing the barbaric treatment of • Jews by
Germans in Poland.
Pleading shortage of shipping, the Swedish
Government has refused a request of the War
Refugee Board to remove Jewish refugees
from Black Sea ports to Palestine. The Swe-
dish statement made it clear that it -regretted
the necessity for this decision. Allied ships
cannot operate in the Black Sea region, the
area being under Axis control.
The complete elimination of Nazi discrimi-
natory legislation and regulations in countries
liberated by the United Nations is a basic
policy of the United States Government, it
was indicated. by Major General J. A. Ulio,
Adjutant General of the United States Army,
in a letter to • Dr. John Slawson, executive
9 vice-president of the American Jewish Com-
mittee. General Ulio's statement was in an-
swer to a suggestion of the American Jewish
Committee that specific instructions by Amer..

The execution of almost all of the 140,000
Jews in the city of Lwow, in the old Galician
section of Poland, was reported by two sur-
vivors who managed to escape by bribing
Nazi guards and making their way to the
Russian lines. Isador Hertz and his wife,
Laura, both blond and able to pass as "Ary-
ans," told of their escape from "the forest of
death" to which Jews from all over Europe
were brought for slaughter, it is reported by
the United Press.
Representing a membership of 75,000 wo-
men throughout Canada, the executive corn-
, mittee of the Federated Women's Institute of
Canada has adopted a message demanding the
abrogation of the White Paper of 1939 and
expressing "the hope that within the British
Empire the reconstitution of Palestine as a
Jewish National Homeland will be speedily
and fully realized."
Following the lead of clergymen in Boston
and New York, 100 Protestant ministers in
Philadelphia have organized a Regional Ac-
tion Committee to smash anti-Semitism, under
the auspices of The Protestant, a monthly
magazine, and its Textbook Commission to
Eliminate Anti-Semitic Statements in Ameri-
can Textbooks. Close to 4,000 ministers have
signed the pledge to support the Protestant
Textbook Commission, according to a state-
ment by Kenneth Leslie, editor of The
Protestant.

The Mothers' Clubs of the Jew-
ish Community Center will co-
operate with the Jewish Commu-
nity Council in setting aside the
month of April for the work of
that organization.
Fenkell Mothers' Club will
meet 1:30 p. m. Tuesday at Park-
side Hebrew School.
The Twelfth St. Mothers' Club
will hold an afternoon meeting,
Chal Hamoed Pesach, on Mon-
day, at 1:30 p. m., at Assembly
Hall, 12th St. at Clairmount. The
meeting will be a Passover party.
The Jewish Community Council
will provide the program.
Center Mothers' Club will meet
Wednesday, at 8:30 p. m., at Jew-
ish Community Center.
Woodward Study Club will
meet Wednesday, at 1:30 p. m., at
Herman Kiefer Hospital, Taylor
and Hamilton. Members of the
group are to meet Mrs. Lainbrin-
off in the lobby at the Taylor en-
trance. Pre-school children may
be left at the Center's toyery.

The annual awards of the National Confer-
ence of Christians and Jews "to the men and
women who did most last year to promote
good will among Americans of all faiths," have
been made to Carl Van Doren, for his talks
on "The American Scriptures," an intermission
feature of the N9.171 York Philharmonic Sym-
phony broadcasts: Waiter Van Kirk, for his
Religious News Reporting over the NBC net-
work.

The Iron Guard, Rumanian fascist organiza-
tion outlawed by the Nazis several years ago
for "refractory conduct" and insufficient col-
laboration, was permitted to come into the
open again in Nazi efforts to intensify anti-
Semitic propaganda. The campaign is viewed
as another attempt to divert attention from
the military defeats suffered by the Axis.
Possibilities for investments in agriculture,
industry and commerce in postwar Palestine
were outlined by Dr. Emil Schmorak, head of
the Department for Trade and Industry of the
Jewish Agency, in an address to a large gather-
ing of Jewish businessmen in Holborn Res-
taurant in London.
Regima Fascista, official organ of the Fascist
Party in occupied Italy, carries a fierce attack
on Archbishop Schuster of Milan and "his
colleagues of the clergy, charging that they
have been given sanctuary and have otherwise
protected Jews from the effects of anti-Jewish
legislation.
Joseph Nushatten was executed by the Nazis
in Brussels, Belgium, after a court found him
guilty of assisting anti-Nazi saboteurs.
On the 25th anniversary of the Saratov Mili-
tary Hospital, a number of Jewish doctors,
men and women, attached to the staff, received
decorations from the Soviet Government for
medical achievements.
An agreement has been reached in London
between representatives of the Board of Jew-
ish Deputies, the World Jewish Congress and
the Anglo-Jewish Association.
The British Section of the World Jewish
Congress has submitted to British Government
officials, in a position to be of assistance, a
series of proposals in connection with the
rescue of Rumanian Jewry which finds itself in
a precarious position with the intensification of
anti-Semitic propaganda.
The eyewitness account of one who claims
to have seen the execution of 10 trainloads
of Jews at the Belzec concentration camp in
Poland was published in the Stockholm press.
Sr. Lt. Isaac Waxman, 20 years old, a native
of Krasno-Polsk, was decorated with the Order
of the Red Star and given the title of Hero
of the Soviet Union "for skillful leadership
and heroism under fire."
The anti-Jewish measures enacted in Nazi-
occupied Italy have been ineffective, according
to Regima Fascista, official organ of the Fas-
cist Party.

Miss Halperin, whose three per-
formances next week will be her
concluding ones at Littman's this
season, has won acclaim here and
in New York and Chicago. Last
Friday evening, she was given a
warm reception at the Workmen's
Circle Bldg., where she appeared
in a program of recitations.
Miss Halperin and the Littmeh
cast will play in Cleveland for a
week upon conclusion of the lo-
cal Yiddish theatrical season..
