Seder Services
In Hillel Chapel
Friday Evening

Jews in Port Huron
To Hold Community
Seder on Saturday

A special holiday service will
be conducted on the second day
of Passover in Port Huron, with
Rabbi S. S. Auerbach preaching
on "Three Ways to Gain Free-
dom." On the eve of the last day
of Pesach, Rabbi Auerbach will
speak on "A Blueprint for Final
Redemption." Ma s k i r services
will be held on Saturday, April
15.
The Community Seder will
take place on the second Seder
night, with the children of Mt.
Sinai ' Religious School partici- •
pating. A special ladies' commit-
tee has been appointed,: headed
by Mrs. Isadore Goldman, incom-
ing president of the Sisterhood.
The Seder also will be attended
by Jewish families of neighbor-
ing places.

During Passover

First seder services for Pass-
over will be held at Bnai Brith
Hillel Foundation at the Uni-
versity of Michigan this Friday,
at 7 p. m. The regular Friday
evening services in the 'chapel
will not be held.
Rabbi Jehudah M. Cohen, di-
rector of the Foundation; Dr.
Saul Cohen, Benson Jaffee, '46,
of Cleveland and Elliot Organick,
'44E, of New York City, will
read • the Hagadah. Elliot Orga-
nick will chant the traditional
melodies.
Arrangements for the seder are
Sri. charge of Benson Jaffee, chair-
man of religious activities at the
Foundation; and Zena Etkin, '45,
,-of Detroit student director in
charge of religious activities.
The ceremony will be conduct-
'lied in Hebrew and English.

The week of Passover meals
served at the home of Rabbi
Isaac,J. Goldman, of Beth Israel
Orthodox Congregation. Students
and servicemen on the campus
will thus - have the opportunity
to observe the Passover dietary
laws.

Dr. Glazer to Give
Second 'Message
Of Israel' Sermon

Dr. B. Benedict Glazer of
Temple Beth El this Sunday_will
deliver the second in a series of
five broadcasts this month as
guest speaker on the "Message
of Israel" radio hour.
Dr. Glazer's second broadcast
will be "Mental Health in a Sick
World," and will be heard local-
ly
CKLW from 9 to 9:30
p. m. as a rebroadcast. Nation-
ally he will be heard from 10 to
10:30 a. m. (EWT) over the Blue
•Network and associated stations.
Last Sunday Dr. Glazer's ser-
mon was "Why . Freedom Must
Prevail." On April 16, 23 and 30
he will speak on "Can We Con-
trc: Our Hatreds?"; "The Fam-
ily in War Time"; "Is There
Hope for a Better World?"

Rabbis to Appeal
:For Observance
Of Sabbath Closing

At a gathering of Orthodox
Rabbis, a review was made of
!the progress in the field of
Sabbath observance as a result
.of the activity of the Women's
`League for Sabbath Observance.
It was reported that to date
45 food stores • on *Linwood,
Dexter and Twelfth St. are
closed on Saturday. Placards
have been placed in these stores
by the Women's League for
Sabbath Observance and the
public is asked to patronize
them.
The Rabbis of Detroit will de-
vote Pesach sermons to the
theme of Sabbath observance.
Lists have been posted in all
synagogues of stores co-operat-
ing.
Th.e Women's League for Sab-
bath Observance, which now
has a membership of more than
1,000, invites Jewish women to
join its ranks. Mrs. Isadore
Levin is president of the Twelfth
St. branch, and Mrs. J. Sperka
of the main chapter. A chapter
of Junior matrons is now in the
process of organization.

Beth El Holds
Annual Seder
This Saturday

In order to give the members
of Congregation Beth El an op-
portunity to conduct a home
Seder, there will be no service
at the Temple this Friday even-
ing.
Services for the *first day of
Passover will be held Saturday
morning at 10:30, in the Main
Auditorium. Dr. B. Benedict
Glazer will preach on "Why
Freedom Must Prevail" and the
Temple Quartet will render the
music with Julius Chajes direct-
ing and Jason Tickton at the
organ.
The annual Congregational
Seder wil be held this Saturday
evening, at 6, in the social hall.
Services for the concluding
day of Passover will be held on
Friday morning, April 14, at
10:30.
The Religious School is ob-
serving its Passover vacation.
Sessions will be resumed on Sat-
urday and Sunday mornings,
April 22 and 23.
Dr. Glazer will broadcast his
second address on the "Message
of Israel" hour on Sunday, April
9, from 9 p. m. to 9:30 p. m.,
over CKLW. His subject will be
"Mental Health in a Sick
World."

To Be Sermon for This
Saturday Morning

Members of Temple Israel
will come with their children
to the Passover Sabbath Eve
service Friday night, April 14,
at 8:30, in the Lecture Hall of
the Detroit Institute of Arts.
Rabbi. Leon Fram will tell
the parents and the children
the "Legends of. Passover."
The Youth Choir, consisting
of students of Temple Israel
High School, conducted by Can-
tor Robert S. Tulman _ and ac-
companied by organist Karl W.
Haas, will render a special pro-
gram of Passover music. Par-
ents and children will join in
singing hymns in Hebrew and
English.
The Sisterhood of Temple Is-
rael has prepared Passover re-
freshments for the social hour
to follow the. service.
At this service the congrega-
tion also will read the Yizkor
or memorial prayer. Cantor
Tulman will chant the El Mole
Rachamim, and Rabbi Fram
will read the names of members
who have passed away since the
last Yiikor Service on Yom
Kippur.
There is no Sabbath Eve ser-
vice this Friday night. The
service for the first day of Pass-

El on Tuesday evening, April 18,
at 8, in the Men's Club Room.
Mr. Adler will speak on "Will
Russia Co-operate in World Re-

Observance 12th St. branch will

Tuesday at 1:30 p. m. at the Beth
Tefilo Emanuel Synagogue, Tay-
lor and Woodrow Wilson. Rabbi
Jacob Hoberman of Congrega-
tion Beth Itzchock will be guest
speaker. Passover delicacies will
be served. Members and friends

Pre-Passover Service
Held at State Hospital

A pre-Passover service was
conducted by Rabbi Selig S.
Auerbach for the Jewish in-
mates of the State Hospital at
Traverse City. Arrangements
have been made to provide the
Jewish patients with Matzoh.
Dr. Auerbach recently has been
appointed Jewish chaplain at
the State Hospital at Traverse
City.

Junior Congregation of Shaa-
rey Zedek will conduct its own
services during Passover.
Eugene Malitz and Arthur Be-
navi will act as cantors.
Robert Kasle, Philip Caplan,
Dale Boesky and Sheldon Lutz
will be the Baale Koreh.
Jack Rogvoy, Mrs. Rose Wolok
and Harvey Wrisberg will de-
liver messages on various Pass-.
