Field of Internal Jewish Discipline to Be Explored by Group
Headed by Dr. Glazer; Community Mobilized to
Observe Council Month in April

Plan Council Month
In the field of internal Jewish
discipline, Dr. Glazer h a s ap-
pointed Harry R. Solomon, chair-
man, and Lewis C. Frank, co-
chairman, of a special sub-com-
mittee which has been conferring
with and advising various trade
groups in the city on ways and
means of maintaining high stan-
dards in their dealings with the
public. Another committee un-
der the leadership of James Stein
and Rudolph Zuieback has been
extending the same service to
individuals who have indicated
a need for help in meeting prob-
lems peculiar to their particular
trades. These committees have
been meeting regularly in the
past seven weeks and have al-
ready effected important adjust-
ments.

Jewish Council Month, to be
observed throughout April, is a
project of the internal relations
committee. During this time an

effort will be made to reach the
200 member organizations with
personal messages interpreting
the work of the Council. Joseph
Bernstein leads a Yiddish speak-
ers' bureau which has drawn up
plans for sending speakers to ad-
dress all the Yiddish - speaking
groups which are members of the
Council. Their emphasis will be
on strengthening the ties between
the Council and its constituent
organizations, describing t h e
work done by the Council, and
indicating ways in which t h e
Council can be of service to the
organizations in their own ac-
tivities, primarily in the planning
of cultural programs.
Rabbis Assist Council
Speakers will be made avail-
able to other organizations in the
community. Dr. Glazer has an-
nounced that any group may con-
tact the Council office for help
in securing a speaker.
Rabbis of the community are
being requested to devote one
sermon during the month to a
discussion of the , Community
Council. Rabbi Leon Fram has
already indicated that he will lec-
ture on The Jewish Community
Council—How It Combats anti-
Semitism and Builds Good Will
for Detroit Jewry" at Temple
Israel services next Friday eve-
ning.

of Hillel Foundation at the Uni-
versity of Michigan, will be the

bers, comprising women who
have joined since the initiation
ceremony a year ago, will be
known as the "Frances Solovich
Class" and will be initiated in an
impressive ceremony to be per-
formed by the Pisgah Women

James I. Ellmann, president of the Jewish Community
Council of Detroit, announces that reorganization of the
internal relations committee of the Council is complete, and
that the committee's work is well under way under the
chairmanship of Dr. B. Benedict Glazer, with Joseph Bern-
stein serving as co-chairman.

The reorganization of the coin-
mittee became necessary with the
departure from Detroit of Rabbi
Morris Adler to join the U. S.
Army as a chaplain, and with the
assumption by Dr. Glazer of the
duties of chairman. This commit-
tee concerns itself. with questions
of internal Jewish diScipline, the
consolidation of Jewish organiza-
tions into a united Jewish com-
munity, the raising of cultural
standards in the community, and
the creation of a well-formed
and articulate public opinion on
all matters affecting Jewish life.
It also includes the integration
and direction of the war efforts
of the various Jewish groups in
the community.
