Oneg Shabbat Planned
An Oneg Shabbat will be held
at the Rose Sittig Cohen Bldg.

mittee to be organized for that

An essay contest has been an-
nounced to be sponsored by Maur-
ice Landau and Harry Cohen. The
subject is "Why Do I Attend the
Hebrew Schools."
Written in Hebrew
In the high school and in the
higher classes of the elementary
school, the essay will be written
in Hebrew, and in other classes
in English. The prize for the He-
brew essays is a $25 Bond and
$15 in War Stamps, for the Eng-
lish essay $10 in War Stamps.
Thursday, March 30, is the last
day for submission of essays in
the contest.
The program committee for the
banquet includes Aaron.A. Silber-
blatt, Judge Friedman, Abe Kasle
and Rudolph Zuieback. Members
of the Woman's Auxiliary, head-
ed by Mrs. Jack Tobin, will be in
charge of decorations.
Dr. A. E. Bernstein, Julius Ber-
man and Morris Fishman are
heading the committee of hosts
for the banquet.
The commitee on educational
information of the United Hebrew
Schools, headed by Philip Slomo-
vitz, has just published the Pu-
rim bulletin which contains a Pu-
rim quiz- and other holiday fea-
tures. This bulletin is being sent
to the entire membership of the
schools.

Kvutzah to Celebrate
Purim Saturday Evening

Kvutzah Ivrith, Hebrew cul-
tural group, will hold its annual
gathering on Saturday evening
in the Rose Sittig Cohen Bldg.
The program, prepared by the
chairman of the evening, Abram
Twersky, will feature brief talks
by M. Goldoftas and Isaac Franck
and a reading by Moshe Dombey.
There will be vocal selections by
Henri Goldberg, accompanied by
Miss Lillian Robbins; and a piano
recital by Miss Renee LaMed.
Purim refreshments will be
served by the Ladies' Auxiliary
of the Kvutzah.

• NEW HOSPITAL IN HAIFA
HAIFA (Palcor)—The former
Settlers' Hostel in Ahuza, on
Mount Carmel, has been taken
over by the Workers' Sick Bene-
fit Fund (Dupat •Holim) of the
Histadruth, and is to be con-
verted into a hospital mainly for
internal diseases, it is announced.
Over 50 beds will be available
in the 23 rooms of the building.

Virginia Is 17th State
Opposed to White Paper

RICHMOND, Va. (JPS)—The
Virginia State Legislature h a s
adopted a resolution calling for
"the development of Palestine, as
a self-governing Jewish Com-
monwealth" and demanding the
abrogation of the White Paper.
Since the issuance of the Brit-
ish White Paper of 1939 which
would: prohibit all Jewish im-
migration intb Palestine after
March 31st,. 16 other states have
demanded that this White Paper
be abolished. They are: Alabama,
California, Colorado, Connecticut,
Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Mary-
1 a n d, Massachusetts, Missouri,
New Jersey, New York, Pennsyl-
vania, Rhode Island, South Caro-
lina and Texas.
