Our Film. Folk

By HELEN ZIGIVIOND

You'll have to squirm through
a lot of footage to get to Quiz Kid
Kupperman in "Chip off the Old
Block." The credits say, "Intro-
ducing Joel Kupperman" . . .
and that's what you get . . an
introduction. Yet-during the few
hundred feet of film in which he
appears, the audience howled at
his "seekwit twickth." Joel comes
into the picture with Donald
O'Connor . . it looks like fun
. . . something new—a big-boy,
little-boy team. Then suddenly
the story flattens out to formula
No. 5—boy-meets-girl and Old
Broadway. Joel . . a million
dollars' worth of laughs wrapped
up in a three-foot package . . .
is lost in a fadeout. Universal
missed a great opportunity . .
and thousands of Kupperman
fans will clamor for the Quiz-
zical Kid who has gained coun-
try-wide popularity.
Of all things! Francis X. Bush-
