Purim Festivities
At Temple Israel

Numerous Pageants, Parties
and Plays Arranged in
Celebration of Festival

Masquerades, pageants, plays,
parties and special religious serv-
ices will mark the observance of
Purim at Temple Israel.

Friday night, March 10, has
been designated as Purim Fam-
ily Sabbath Eve, when parents
will attend the service in the
company of their children to hear
Rabbi Leon Fram preach on the
subject "From Shushan to Tehe-
ran," and to listen to traditional
Purim music to be rendered by
Cantor Robert S. Tulman and the
Youth Choir of Temple Israel
High School, accompanied at the
organ by Karl W. Haas. Parents
and children will also sing con-
gregational Purim hymns.

The intermediate department of
Temple Israel Religious School,
grades 4 and 5, will hold a mas-
querade party on Sunday morn-
ing. The children will come
dressed in the costumes of the
story of Esther and the United
Nations. The primary department,
children of the kindergarten and
grades 1, 2 and 3, will hold their
Purim masquerade on Sunday
morning, March 12. Both parties
will be entertained by a Purim
pageant entitled "Up Haman's
Sleeve," by Margaret Soifer, and
directed by William P. Green-
berg. The play is given by the
Stage Club of Temple Israel Re-

At the Sabbath eve services of
Temple Beth El this Friday,
March 3, at 8:15, Dr. B. Benedict
Glazer will speak on "The Twi-
light of The Hamans and the Hit-
lers—Who shall rule the world of
tomorrow? Some Thoughts Sug-
gested by the Festival of Purim."
The musical program will be
rendered by the Temple Quartet
under the direction of Julius Cha-
jes, with Jason Tickton at the
organ. A social hour under the
auspices of the Sisterhood wilt
follow the services.
. At the Sabbath morning serv-
ices on Saturday, March 4, the
monthly children's service will
be conducted. The following stu-
dents will participate: Genia Ger-
man, Guida Garon and William
Mazer. Dr. Glazer will preach.

Sedorim Planned
For 'M' Students

The Youtli and Campus Com-
mittee of the Michigan Syna-
gogue Conference is again mak-
ing preparations to provide Pass-
over Sedorim and kosher meals
during the entire festival week
for Jewish students on • the
campus of the University of
Michigan at Ann Arbor, in co-
operation with the Bnai Brith
Hillel Foundation.
This year more extensive ar-
rangements will be made to ac-
commodate the additional hun-
dreds of Jewish servicemen at-
tending the University of Michi-
gan, and those stationed at
neighboring camps.
Osias Zwerdling, president, and
Rabbi Jacob J. Nathan, commit-
tee chairman, issued an appeal's-to
congregations, sisterhoods and
communal organizations to make
contributions towards this fund.
A number of organizations have
already responded, and others
are asked to mail their checks to
the Conference office, 12219 Dex-

Shaarey Zedek Religious School Sets Tree-Planting Record

Congregation Sharey Zedek's religious school broke
all records in tree-planting activities through the Jew-
ish National Fund in Palestine by purchasing 345 trees
in the Freedom Forest during the celebration of
Hamisha Asar b'Shevat.

Representatives were selected from each class from
the second through the' twelfth grades to sitmulate the
purchase of these trees. After three weeks of enthus-
iastic competition, the class, Bernard Jaffe,' in-
structor, emerged as winner of first place with the sum
of $85.50 raised, representing the purchase of 57 trees.
Muriel Stern was the class representative of this
. champion group.

certificate to the Shaarey Zedek Religious School in
recognition of its outstanding achievement.
