By Scholars

Nationally prominent scholars
and heads of Hillel Foundations
throughout the country have
written Congregation Shaarey
Zedek of Detroit commending
the local Conservative synagogue
and its Rabbi, Dr. A. M. Hersh-
man, on the appearance of Rab-
bi Hershman's book, "Rabbi Isaac
Perfet and His Times."
Dr. Louis Finkelstein, presi-
dent of the Jewish Theological
Seminary of America, writes:
"It is indeed a magnificent
contribution to . Jewish history.
You have succeeded not only in
bringing together a vast amount
of information, but in present-
ing it in such a way that even
the lay leader will, I am sure, be
deeply interested."
Dr. Alexander Marx, Librarian
of the Jewish Theological Sem-
inary, who wrote the foreward to
the book, again praises the vol-
ume as a "work of labor and
toil."

Protective Agencies

Action of Executive Com-

of Delegates March 13

The Jewish Community Coun-
cil will become one of the bodies
affiliated with the newly created
National Community Relations
Advisory Council which was
created as a result of the Pitts-
burgh Assembly of the Council
of Jewish Federations and Wel-
fare Funds as a first step toward
a coordinated national program
of combatting anti-Semitism.

Affiliated with this Advisory
Council will be the four national
civic protective organizations:
American Jewish Committee,
American Jewish Congress, Anti-
Defamation League of Bnai Brith
and Jewish Labor Committee,
together with representatives of
the larger communities which
have local civic protective of-
fices. They will meet regularly
to formulate policy in this field.
The Community Council's ex-
ecutive committee unanimously
decided to become officially af-
filiated with this national body.
James I. Ellmann, president, and
Isaac Franck, executive director,
have been designated represen-
tatives of Detroit's Jewish com-
munity. The executive commit-
tee's action is to come up for
ratification by the Community
Council's delegated at their
meeting on Monday, March 13.
The agenda of the March 13
meeting will also include a re-

Rabbi Rabinowitz writes: "The
book will make a valuable addi-
tion to our collection, forming, as
it' does, an admirable companion
to Dr. Neuman's work on "The
Jews in Spain," and will doubt-
less find its way to a wide circle
of readers."
