Plays, Parties

"The Star of Judah" by E. E.
Levinger will be the Purim pres-
entation of the Intermediate
Drama Group before the Primary
and Intermediate Assembly on
Sunday, March 5, of the Temple
Beth El school. The play, under
the direction of Mrs. Blanche G.
Romm, consists of the following:
Marshall Loewenstein, Stephen
Feurth, Bertram Shapero, Lois
Lenhoff, Carol L e w i s, Joan
Lewis, Marjorie Yagoda and
Susan Klein.

A masquerade party for the
primary department in the Social
Hall, and a special program of
entertainment for the Intermed-
iate Department in the third
floor chapel, will follow the play.

The play "Shushan Review"
by Feirman, Fine and Nodel will
be presented in the Junior High
School on Saturday, March 11,
preceding the Purim part of the
Seventh and Eighth grades in the
third floor chapel. Mrs. Romm
directs the play with the follow-
ing: Judy Mayer, John Hopp,
Geraldine Yagoda, Toby Breuer,
Collette Salon, John Romm, Mar-
ianne Goldberg, Jerry Bronson,
Dene Laib and Edith Finster-
wald.

The Confirmation Class Purim
party is to be held in the Men's
Club Room, Thursday- , March 9,
at 4:30 p. m.

The regular monthly children's
service will take place on Satur-
day morning, March 4, from 11
to 12 o'clock. The following will
participate: Genia G e r ma n,
Guida Garon and Billy Mazer of
the Eighth grade.

Beth Jacob of Hamilton, Ontario.
Another feature is a three-
scene skit by students of t h e
Yeshivah, depicting the work
done at the school which now
has 350 students in all depart-
ments including the elementary,
secondary and advanced classes,
and the Beth Jacob Religious
School for Girls, sponsored by
the Ladies of the Yeshivah.
There rare nine rabbis a n d
teachers on the Yeshivah faculty
and three women educators on
the Beth Jacob staff.
March 5 Banquet
Yeshivah Month will come to
a close on Sunday, March 5, with
the second annual dinner f o r
members and patrons at the so-
cial hall of Shaarey Zedek.

and a director of the Yeshivah, is
chairman of the ticket committee.
A large number of congregations
and communal groups, as well as
individuals, already have made
reservations. A table of 10 will
be occupied by Congregational
Bnai Zion, headed by Isidore
Sosnick, vice-president of t h e
Yeshivah.
Morris Mohr is chairman of the
committee in charge of the an-
niversary journal.
Contributions are being so-
licited during the month from
individuals and organizations to
meet the annual budget of
$40,000, including the operations
covered by the Ladies of t h e
Yeshivah.

pear on the musical program.
Harry Siegel, cellist, will ren-
der musical selections.

Dr. Abraham A. Neuman,
president of Dropsie College,
Philadelphia, one of the most
eminent Jewish scholars in
America, will deliver the sermon
at the late Friday evening serv-
ices at the Shaarey Zedek to-
night. His topic will be "America
—The Future Center of Jewish
Learning."
Dr. Neuman will also deliver
the sermon at the Sabbath morn-
ing services of the Shaarey
Zedek.
The public is invited to the
Shaarey Zedek services, which
are in charge of Dr. A. M. Hersh-
man, with Cantor J. H. Sonen-
klar officiating.

Adler's Address in
Brochure of NCCJ

"Why We Fight," a pamphlet
containing the addresses deliv-
ered by Ministers, Priests and
Rabbis at Army camps, has just
been published by the National
Conference of Christians and
Jews.
Rabbi Morris Adler of Congre-
gation Shaarey Zedek, who is
now serving as Chaplain in the
armed forces, one of a trio from
Detroit who visited a number of
Army camps, is represented in
this brochure with an excerpt
from one of his addresses.

ing in 1922. Ignoring luke-warm
notices at that time, it moved to
New York where it received sub-
zero criticism. Then suddenly,
the people found it, came in
droves. More than 50,000,000 per-
sons have seen it in the U. S.
and Canada . . . royalties of more
than $10,000,000 have gone to
Miss Nichols, its author. The
current version is exactly the
same as the original except for
style 'of clothes and furniture.
Alfred White, the first Solomon
Levy, still plays the part.

Maurice Chevalier, who, when
last heard from, was singing for
his Nazi supper, is now reported
as a prisoner in a Nazi camp. A
letter signed by him . re-
putedly authentic . . asking for
a supply of condensed milk, was
received by the Borden Co.
