Personality Sketch Former President of United Hebrew Schools fo Assist in Plans for 25th Anniversary of the Detroit Community Schools Feb. 20—the date of his 55th birthday—will be just another day in the busy- life of Louis Robinson, prominent Detroit com- munity leader and furniture merchant. Active in many communal affairs, Mr. Robinson especially devotes himself to the welfare of the United Hebrew Schools of Detroit. It is a family tradition which he cherishes because of t h •e important role that was N., played in t h e schools activi- ties by his fa- ther, the late David Robinson, „A who was one of the, founders of the Talmud Torahs. When th e United Hebrew Schools will cel- ebrate the 25th a nniversary within two months, Mr. Robinson, • a for- mer president of the local He- brew education- al system, will have an impor- tant share in the planning, as co-chairman of t h e committee on arrangements for the anniver- sary banquet. During the- sessions of t h e General Assem- bly'. of the Coun- cil of Jewish Federations and Welfare Fund in LOUIS ROBINSON Pittsburgh last week, Mr. Robinson was elected a member of the board of gova ernors of the laymen's national educational body, American Asso- ciation for Jewish Education, to represent Detroit. Born in Lachawitch, Russia, Feb. 20, 1889, Mr. Robinson came to Detroit with his parents at the age of 2, in 1891. He acquired his education in the elementary schools of Detroit, the Detroit College of Law and Detroit Commercial College. , In June, 1942,_.he completed three years of service as president of the United Hebrew Schools. He was treasurer for two terms of the Zionist Organization of Detroit, and at present serves on the board of governors of the Jewish Welfare Federation and the executive board of the Jewish Home for Aged. He is the oldest of seven sons of Mr. and Mrs. David Robinson. His mother had also been a leader in community activities. It . is, based on testimony of eyewitnesses and was written as a weapon against the recurrence of these events. Prevention of race riots. is one of the aims of the authors, who quote a Negro woman as saying, "There ain't no North any more. Everything now is South." And because of the effective appeal they make that there should be no North nor South in a better and secure future but "just the L nited States," their, book• is a great contribution to the fight for decency. "Race Riot" alms to have the average man " understand - the symptoms and causes of race riots so that they should be pre- pared to take action against them. They urge constant fact-finding, they encourage- the functions of good-will inter-faith committees, they warn against complacency. Among actions they recommend in the event riots break out are: Immediate invitation to state militia or U. S.
