FightAgainstAnti-Semitism
Reported Invasion Prelude .

Reports to the Jewish Press Service from its Sources In
Allied and Neutral Countries Indicate Growing
Resistance in Puppet Areas

Reports reaching the Independent Jewish Press Service
from its sources in neutral and Allied capitals indicate that,
with the approaching Allied invasion, there is a growing
resistance on the part of some of the puppet governments
and governments considered within the Nazi orbit against
the Nazi anti-Semitic program. The reports follow.

French Youth Groups
Aid Jews to Escape
BERNE, Switzerland (JPS) —
French youth are forming groups
to aid Jews to escape from the
Nazis and get across the border
into neutral territory, it is re-
ported by the newspaper Liberte
printed in Fribourg, Switzerland.
An editorial in the newspaper
praises the youths for their atti-
tude.

Fascist Expropriation
Order in Italy Fails
LONDON (JPS)—The decree
of the puppet Italian Fascist
regime ordering the Jews to
transfer to the government all
their valuables has failed of its
purpose, it is admitted by the
newspaper Regima Fascista. Ac-
cording to the regulation, the
Jews were to hand over all gold,
silver, diamonds and art trea-
sures. The failure of the decree
is ascribed to the fact that Italian
non-Jews have aided Jews in hid-
ing their valuables.

Aryan Mercantile
Efficiency Questioned
ISTANBUL (JPS)—Merchants
in Hungary and in neutral coun-
tries are refusin..g to deal with
"pure" Slovakian firms which do
not employ Jewish managers, the
Nazi newspaper Grenzbote pub-
lished in Bratislava, Slovakia,
complains. The foreign merchants
claim, the newspaper says, that
the Slovaks by themselves are so
inefficient that it is impossible
to do business with them unless
they have Jewish managers.

Rabbinical Council
Asks Roosevelt Aid
Against White Paper

NEW YORK—The Rabbinical
Council of America called on
President Roosevelt and Secre-
tary of State Hull to take "all
appropriate measures" to bring
about the abrogation of the Brit-
ish White Paper of 1939, which
would prohibit all new Jewish
immigration into Palestine after
March 31, 1944.
A resolution condemning the
White Paper as representing "the
sacrifice of principle to expedi-
ency" and calling for the recon-
struction of Palestine as "a Jew-
ish Commonwealth guaranteeing
full democratic rights to all the
inhabitants thereof" was unani-
mously adopted at a meeting of
the Council's Executive Commit-
tee. Texts of the resolution were
transmitted in letters to Presi-
dent Roosevelt and Secretary of
State Hull by Rabbi William
Drazin, President of the Council.
The Rabbinical Council has a
national membership of 300
rabbis, who minister to as many
communities in the United States.

Assimilationism Fails,
Prof. Namier Declares

LONDON (JTA) — Asserting
that Jews in America are living
"in an invisible yet real ghetto,"
Prof. L. Namier, former political
adviser of the executive of the
Jewish Agency in London, this
week challenged the theory ad-
vanced by some anti-Zionists in
England that assimilationism has
proven successful. Writing in the
Manchester Guardian, he declares
