Humanitarian efforts to improve the status of Jews everywhere continue unabated as we welcome the New Year 1944. In this country and abroad, through the United Jewish Appeal for Refugees, Overseas Relief and Pal- estine; with the aid of agencies set up by the Joint Distribution Committee, Bnai Brith, National Refugee 'Service, United Palestine Appeal, National Labor Com- mittee. for Palestine, and other Jewish causes, plans are being formulated to assure a better future for Jews,. everywhere. The Year 1944 finds the Jewish people determinied that nothing should be left undone either in providing relief for the oppressed or homes for the dispossessed. Beverly Hills Bnai Brith has been spending $1,000 a month to operate a servicemen's dormitory in Hollywood, Calif. shown on the right, housing and feeding 150 men every week-end. Over-age and handicapped refugees as- semble army sewing kits in a sheltered workshop established by the National Refugee Service. Operating on a certifi- cate from the Federal Wage and Hour Division the shop enables such refugees to earn money and do useful war work. • Refugee doctors are contributing to the war effort by serving in hospitals and clinics at home as well as at army camps and on bat- tle fronts.
