Women's Clubs Local Brevities
East Side Ladies' Auxiliary of
Bnai Brith will celebrate Hanu-
kah on Monday, at 9 p. m. at
Pillar Temple, 14529 Kercheval.
The traditional ceremonies will
be performed by Mrs. Charlotte
Davidson, who will also speak on
the significance of the holiday.
Miss Sadie Gladwin will deliver
a message. The Komer family
will present a Menorah to Men's
Lodge 1465 in memory of former
Secretary Ullanoff. Refreshments
will be served.

Ladies' Auxiliary of Master
Plumbers' Clut will have a
Hanukah party .Dec. 26 at War-
saw Club. A charity bridge-tea
will be sponsored at 1 D. m. Wed-
nesday, Jan. 12, at Kern's, and
proceeds will go for the War
Chest and the American Red
Cross. Mrs. Sam Ginsberg of
Glendale Ave. is president of the
auxiliary. Mrs. S. S. Kornweiss is
chairman of the affair.

Ezra Women's Division of Fed-
eration of Polish Jews met Sun-
day morning at the home of Mrs.
Harry Weinberg, 3279 Fullerton,
and made plans for the annual
donor luncheon which will be
held Jan. 12 at the Detroit Le-
land Hotel. Information is avail-

The games night will be held
Jan 5 at the Bnai MoShe.

have its anual Hanukah celebra-
tion Monday, with Mrs. David
J. Cohen as chairman of the
event. .Cantor Irving Ringel will
kindle the lights. There will be-
Hanukah games. The annual
fund-raising event will be held
Jan. 24 at the Bnai David social
hall. Mrs. J. Docks, president, an-
nounces that the annual mem-
bership get-togetl_er will be held
Jan. 11. Mrs. Joseph Jacbbs is
in charge of the Red Cross unit
which meets Tuesday afternoons.

Women's League for Sabbath
Observance will hold a Hanukah
membership meeting Monday at
1 P. M. at Pereira's, Dexter and
Boston. Mrs. Esther Etkin Moss-
man will review Van Paassen's
"The Forgotten Ally." Mrs. Josh-
ua Sperka will preside. There
will be a Hanukah musical pro-
gram. Progress is reported in ef-
forts to advance the Sabbath ob-
servance movement.

Eva Prenzlauer Maternity Aid
announces that hostesses for the
11th annual donor luncheon, to
be held Jan. 5 at the Book Cadil-
lac Hotel, will be Mesdames Lil-

elect new officers at a meeting
at the Detroit Federation of
Women's Clubs on Dec. 27. A
dessert luncheon will be served
at 1:30, and the board of direc-
tors will meet at 11 a. m. pre-
ceding the luncheon.

A Happy Hanukah

Brady School, Joy Road and
Lawton, was presented with a
large American Flag by Law-
rence H. Jones Post of Jewish
War Veterans, at ceremonies on
Dec. 14. State Commander Sam-
uel J. Rhodes made the pres-
entation address. The Colors
were presented under the lead-
ership of Capt. Roy C. Cohen.
Hundreds of parents, teachers
and students attended the cere-
monies. Jewish War Veterans
were guests of National Vice-
Commander Harry J. Schaeffer,
at his home, 3296 Webb, after
the exercises, and heard an- ad-
dress by Rabbi Morris Adler. A
gift was presented to Rabbi Ad-
ler whose enlistment as a Chap-
lain has been announced.

Miss Rose Miller, former De-
troiter, who recently resigned as
head social- director of the Grand
Street Settlement of New York
City after nine years of service
to join the American Red Cross
in the field of recreational ac-
tivities for the sick and wounded
soldiers, visited here on Dec. 12
with her brother and sister-in-
law, Mr. and Mrs. John Miller,
and their infant daughter, Sarcha
Joyce, of 11331 Dexter. Miss Mil-
ler was honored at a dinner and
reception at the Miller residence.
Her new post with the Red Cross
will be with the Palo Alto Base
Hospital, California. Her first
social service position, - in 1928-
29, was in San Francisco.

S. Rohlik of the Rohlik Leather
Products Co. annually plants 12
trees in the Fred M. Butzel - For-
est in Palestine in honor of Mr.
Butzel. Mr. Rohlik again hon-
ored his friend Mr. Butzel this
year by planting 12 trees in the
Butzel Forest -through the Jew-
ish National Fund Council here:

the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Getz of Grand Ave. Hanukah
gifts were sent to relatives in the
armed forces: Pvt. William Stone,
home on furlough from Colorado
State College, Fort Collins, Colo..,

Detroit public evening schools
open for a new term of 712 weeks
on Monday, Jan. 3. An enroll-
ment of approximately 10,000 is
expected. Adults are welcome.

Institute Plans
13th Donor Affair
The 13th annual donor project
for the maintenance of the Sho-
lom Aleichem Folk's Schools will
take place Jan. 5, at 12:30, at the
Book Cadillac Hotel.
Mrs. Morris Adler will speak
on ''The Role of • the Jewish
Woman in Social Life."
Saul Meisels, artist of concert
and radio fame, will sing, chasi-
dic classics • and Yiddish folk
songs. Nadia Molofowsky, fam-
ous poet, editor of the literary
bi-monthly magazine "Seviva,"
will read from her own poems.
Moishe Friednian will- extend
greetings on behalf of the Folk's
Institute. Machlie Golde and Re-
na LeIVIed, - pupils of the Sholom
Aleichem Schools, will give reci-
tations.. •
Esther LaMed is chairman of
the program.
This year's fund-raising don-
or event has been directed by

Gifts to Men in Service
Sent by Shaarey Zedek
Congregation Shaarey Zedek
has sent beautiful Hanukah gifts
to members of the congregational
family now in the service. With
the gifts went. letters expressing
the friendly greetings and inter-
est of the congregation, signed
by the rabbis and the president.
The work of assembling the
gifts, . checking the addresses,
mailing the packages was placed
in the charge of the Junior Con-
gregation.
Officers of the Junior Congre-
gation are: Robert Kasle, presi-
dent; Sheldon Lutz, vice-presi-
dent. Members of the board are:
Fayette Singer, chairman; Philip
Caplan, Morton Zieve, Eugene
Malitz, Sidney Zilber, Mimi Le-
vin and Sander Bernstein.

Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Suwalker Independent Progres-
sive Association will hold its an-
nual card party Sunday evening
at the Bnai Moshe. Proceeds will
go for charitable purposes and
for contributionS to the War
Chest and Child Rescue Fund.
The Ladies have contributed to
the cigarette fund and are plan-
ning a USO party. Contributions
are being made to the USO for
hospital kits.

Dr. and Mrs. Meyer Cantor of Broadstreet Blvd: are in Miami,
Fla., for a brief stay.
Mr. and Mrs. David Goldfarb of Flint were the week-end guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis M. Thal of Glynn Ct.
" Mrs. Maurice Gantz and sons are leaving for a week's stay in
Philadelphia.
Mrs. Max Freedlander left on Sunday for an extended visit with
her son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Adolph Schoenfield.
Schoenfield is Chief Medical Advisor at the U. S. Veterans Hospital.
Mrs. Harry Lewis of Sturtevant Ave. is leaving for Miami to be
the guest of her son-in - - law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. David Roth.
A/S Richard B. Thal, who is stationed at the Naval Training
School at Kalamazoo, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis
M. -Thal.
Mrs. Joe Scher has returned to New Haven, Conn., after spend*-
ing a few weeks in Mt. Clemens.
Capt. and Mrs. Lewis B. Barnett and family have returned to .
Detroit after being stationed at Dyersburg Air Base, Tenn.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Rosen of Santa Monica, Calif., are guests
in Detroit.

Miss Barbara Blumrosen is vacationing with •her grandmother,
Mrs. Joseph Barnett of Stoepel Ave.
Honoring Mrs. Viola Weiss of California, Mrs. Sidney Wallace
entertained a group of Mrs: Weiss' friends. Mrs. Perry Burnstine of
LaSalle Blvd. invited a number of guests for brunch on Sunday
to- greet Mrs. Weiss.
Mrs. Viola Weiss will be a guest at the Statler until Jan. 5.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Jacobson, formerly of Normandy Ave., are
now residing on Dunibarton Ave.
Miss Barbara L. Alpern, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark H.
Alpern of Mt. Clemens, is home from Miss Gibbs' School of Boston.
Mr. and Mrs: Joseph Magidsohn of Flint spent the past week-end
in this city.

A/S Cornell Janeway is on furlough from Great Lakes Naval

Port Huron Pupils
To Hold Hanukah
Festival Sunday
A Hanukah gathering will be
held by the Sunday and Hebrew
School pupils of the _Mt. Sinai
Congregation of Port Huron on
Sunday afternon. The festival in
the synagogue will be followed
by the presentation of a play,
"Hanukah Marches On," written
by Sam Silver and Alvin Fine.
The cast includes Helen Hyde,
announcer, Barbara Farber, El-
len Goldman, Helen and Marvin
Kertes, Allan Konop, Phyllis
Philko, Leon Weber, Charles and
Stuart Winkelman and Belle
Zimmer.
"Hannah and Her Seven Sons,"
another play, will be -presented
by Hannah Helen Auerbach,
Betty Ann and Larry Bergsmann,
Donald • Drescher, Barbara a n d
Kenneth • Farber, Carole
and
Louis 'Goldman, Helen and Mar-
