Hanukah celebrations Arranged

All departments of the Jewish
Community Center are planning
Hanukah celebrations.
. The auditorium will be deco-
rated around the holiday theme.
A huge Dreidel in the center of
the Auditorium will be the most
striking feature. Each of the four
panels of the Dreidel will de-
pict historical and contemporary
scenes of Jewish valor and hero-
ism. The walls will be decorated
with Menorahs, Dreidels and ele-
phants. Huge candles will be
placed on the stage. All .decora-
tions have been prepared by the
decorating committee of the Holi-
day Hop, under the .supervision
of Norma Appel and :Rose Brooks
Levine. .

Youth Events
Girl Scout Troop 313 will open
the festivities with a pre-Hanu-
kah tea, Monday. Each , sccout
member will bring .a girl :friend
as guest. Estelle Bieberman will
pour. Shirley. Sider will be in
charge of . entertainments.
On Tuesday the League of De-
troit Jewish Youth together with
other groups of the Center, will
be hosts at an open house party
in the auditorium at 9 p. m.

everyone without charge.
Tea, Dance, Other Events

Girls . of the : Charm Group will
have a. Hanukah tea on Wednes .

Center, will review "The Apos-
tle" by Sholern Asch, in a book.

New Detroiters V will hold a
Hanukah festival on Thursday in
the Auditorium. Parents and
children will participate in
games, dances and refreshments.
Hanukah festivities will con-
tinue . next, Saturday when the
intermediates will hold their
`Saturday Night Hop."
On Dec. 25, the Jewish Com-
munity COundli : and the Jewish
Community - Center will be co-
sponsors of a Hanukah festival in
the auditorium.

day camp, will have a reunion
Monday afternoon, Dec. 27. On
Monday evening, the Business
and Professional discussion group
will consider the topic, "Anti-
Semitism and Post War Prob-
lems." ,
A program of Jewish music has
been arranged for the Hanukah
musicale on Tuesday, Dec. 28.
Arthur Grossman, violiniSt, Can-
tor Robert Tulman, Julius Clad-
jes, pianist and director of the
Center music department, and
Bernard Argiewicz, cellist, will
be the performing artists. The
program will alSo include - com-
munity singing with Mr. Chajes
leading the audience in a group
Of Jewish songs. .
Children participating Vin the
Junior Fun Program will hold a
Hanukah festival Wednesday aft-
ernoon, Dec. 29. Articles made
last month will be exhibited and
a program of games, songs and a
dramatic presentation and re-
freshments are scheduled.
. The. Mothers' Clubs Hanukah
Ball will -close the festivitieS on
Wednesday night, Dec. 29.

Books on Display
At Shaarey Zedek

A display of the most impor-
tant books available for Jewish
readers features the celebration
of Jewish Book Month at the
Library of Congregation Shaarey
Zedek.

The public is invited to view
this display which includes a
special exhibit on Jews in Allied
countries. Another exhibit feat-
ures the works of Dr. Louis Ginz-
berg of the Jewish Theological
Seminary of America, whose 70th
birthday was observed last week.
There are also on view illus-
trated Bible stories and a set of
Hanukah books which are suit-
able for gifts.
The Shaarey Zedek Library is
open as follows: Monday, Tues-
day, Wednesday and Thursday,
10 to 12, .2 to 5:30 and 7 to .9;
Friday, 9:30 to. 12:30; Sunday,
9:30 to 1.
