ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY

Mr. and Mrs. Morris Garvett. of 2011 Longfellow Ave., and
their son, Staff Sergeant Charles M. Garvett, of Pendleton Field,
Oregon, who is on furlough, will be at home on Monday evening,
Nov. 22, after 8 o'clock. No cards.

Ben Kasle, who recently enlisted in the U. S. Navy, is on
furls ugh visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Abe Kasle of 2280
Atkinson Ave. He will return to his post at Farragut, Idaho, next
Tuesday.

Mrs. Hugo Freund of the Book Cadillac Hotel has returned
from a stay in New York City where she visited with her family.
M. and Mrs. Lewis Frank of Colorado Ave. had as their guests
for a few days their son, Lt. (3.g.) Robert Frank, wso is stationed
in Washington, D. C., and their son Cpl. Henry Frank who returned
on Tuesday to his post at Laurel, Miss.

Mrs. Edward Rosenthal returned on Saturday to her home in
Hollywood, Fla., after a visit with her children, Mr. and Mrs.
Robert J: Newman of Canterbury Rd_, and Mr, and Mrs. Hoke Levin
of Boston Blvd.
Mrs. Harry August, her small daughter, Mary Ellen, and her
son, Jimmy, of Huntington Woods, left on Nov. 11 for Gainesville,
Fla., where they joined Major August who is stationed at Camp
Blanding.
Mr. and Mrs. Melville S. Welt of Balmoral Dr. have invited a
group of their friends to a dinner to be given in their home this
Saturday evening.
Lt. Amson Tabor has ' been transferred from Seattle, Wash., to
Riverside, Calif. Mrs. Tabor accompanied him.

The monthly educational gath-
ering of the Woman's Auxiliary
of the United Hebrew Schools
will be held next Wednesday, at
1 o'clock, in the auditorium of
the Rose Sittig Cohen Building.
The guest speaker will be
Moshe Dombey, known as Moshe
Ben Moshe, well known humor-
ist, and an outstanding reader
and interpreter of Yiddish folk
lore. His topic will be "Jewish
Wit and Humor."

Dr. Herbert G. Levin, who has recently been commissioned 1st
Lt. in the U. S. Army Medical Corps, is leaving on Sunday for
Chicago where he will interne at the Michael Reese Hospital. He
is the son of Prof. and Mrs. Samuel M. Levin of Broadstreet Ave.
Max M. Fisher of Muirland Ave. is spending a few weeks in
Tuscon, Ariz., where he is visiting with Mrs. Fisher and their
daughter, Jane Ellen.
Lt. Bernard B. Brown left on Tuesday to resume his duties
with the Transportation Corps, after a few days' leave spent with
Mrs. Brown and their small daughter of the Highland Towers.
En route to New York City, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Rosen of Mus-
kegon spent a few days here visiting with friends.
Yeoman' II Class Frank Siden has returned to his post at the
Great Lakes Naval Training Center after celebrating his 21st birth-
day last Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Siden of
LaSalle Blvd. His brother, Pvt. Irving Siden, who has been stationed
at Sheppard Field, Texas, left on Thursday for his new post in
Salt Lake, Idaho, after a short furlough spent with his family.
Mrs. Leon Schembeck of Monte Vista Ave. left last Sunday for
St. Joseph, Mo., 'where she will visit her family.
- Mrs. Max Krell of the Lee Plaza Apt. has returned. from New
York City where she spent the last few weeks visiting with her
family. -
Capt. A. Max Kohn, who has been on overseas duty, is stationed
at present at Camp Kilmer, N. J. Mrs. Kohn, whose play "From
Pillars to Post" will have its opening at the Playhouse the end of
this month, is residing in New York City.
Mrs. Emil Loewenberg and Mrs. Milton Kuttnauer of the
Belcrest Hotel have left for California where they will make an
extended stay.
Dora Cashdan, who has recently received her commission as
Lt. with the WAC at Fort Oglethorpe, Ga, spent her few days' leave
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joel Cashdan of Boston Blvd., before
leaving for her new post at Claybourne, La.
Miss Rena Flayer of Rochester Ave. left on Wednesday for an
extended visit in California.
Enroute to her home in Rochester, N. Y., from Chicago where
she was a delegate to the Triennial of the Council of Jewish
Women, Mrs. Henry Rich spent a few days in Detroit visiting with
friends.
Mrs. Herbert Cohen gave a tea at her home in Roslyn Rd. last
Saturday afternoon at which the engagement of Miss Phyliss Green
to her son, Arnold Cohen, was announced. Miss Green is the

Mrs. Alick Rosenthal
Observes 75th Birthday

Mrs. Alick Rosenthal of Pe-
toskey, for many years president
of the Bnai Israel Sisterhood of
her community, celebrated her
75th birthday on Nov. 12.
Mrs. Rosenthal continues her
activities, in spite of her age.
Last Yom Kippur she took- part
in the services and offered a
prayer for the aged.
