Tuesday evening in celebration of the 26th anniversary of
the Balfour • Declaration, at a meeting held at the Shaarey
Zedek under the auspices of the Zionist Council of Detroit
and the Michigan Branch of the American Palestine Com-
mittee.

casion to condemn the British
White Paper and to demand its
abrogation in order that Jewish
immigration to Palestine should
not be curtailed.
Federal Judge Frank Picard
was chairman of the meeting.
Speakers included Fred M. But-
zel, Dr. Benjamin Bush, presi-
dent of the Detroit Council of
Churches; Rabbi Morris Adler,
Abrahani Meyerowitz and Philip
Slomovitz.

NEW YORK
Declaring that the United Nations must
prevent the closing of Palestine either as a temporary haven
or as a permanent home, Wendell L. Willkie, 1940 Republican
presidential nominee, Monday night called for the abrogation
of the White Paper, which bars Jewish immigration into
Palestine next April.
