ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY

Mrs. Leonard H. Weiner, Mrs. William H. Frank, Mrs. Herschel
V. Kreger, Miss Elizabeth Finley and Mrs. Gilbert Michael will
leave this Sunday for Chicago where they will attend the triennial
convention of the Council of Jewish Women as delegates froth the
Detroit Section. Their alternates , will be Mrs. Douglas I. Brown,
Mrs. Nathan B. Simons, Miss Henrietta A. Robinson, Mrs. Ben
Shwayder and Mrs. Jack Rothberg. Others who will attend are Mrs.
Joseph Welt and Mrs. Samuel Glbwgower, national officers; Mrs.
Maurice Klein, president of the mideastern conference; Mrs. Milford
Stern, Mrs. Joseph B. Gaylord, Mrs. Daniel Krouse and Miss Setta
Robinson, as visitors.

Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Levin of Cambridge Rd. have returned from
a week's visit in St. Louis, Mo., and Cincinnati.
Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Allen of Lincolnshire Dr. and Mr. and Mrs.
Samuel Epstein of Canterbury Rd. are visiting in New York City.
Before returning home they will visit Tommy Epstein, who is
attending the Hotchkiss school

Word has been received by his family that Capt. Martin L.
Butzel, who is stationed somewhere in England, has been promoted
again and is now Major .Butzel.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Smilay of Balmoral Rd. are visiting in
New York City. .

Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence Zegar of Birchcrest Dr. are planning
to leave this Saturday f@r Los Angeles where they will visit Dr.
Zegar's parents.

Mr. arid Mrs. Louis Lambert of Whittier Rd. and Mr. and Mrs.
Alfred Dreifus of Birchcrest Dr. were hosts to a group of their
friends at a party given last Saturday evening in the Lambert home.
Staff Sgt. Bud Rosenthal, who is on a two weeks' furlough
from his post in Alexandria, La., is visiting with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Louis Rosenthal of the Belcrest Hotel.

Mr. and Mrs. Leon Winkelman of Fairfield Ave. left on Wed-
nesday for Gladstone, Mich., where they will spend a week visiting
with Mrs. Winkelman's mother, Mrs. Henry Rosenblum, and her
brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Lewis.

Mrs. Frederick Rattner -and her daughter, Mrs. Morris Solomon,
have returned to their home in New York City after a visit with
Mrs. Rattner's daughter-in4aw, Mrs. Harold T. Rattner of Wellesly

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Marwil of LaSalle Blvd. left, last week for
Philadelphia where they will visit their son and daughter 7 in-law,
Lt. and Mrs. Milton Marwil. Their daughter, Mrs. Robert Morrison
of Washington, joined them for a few days.

Rabbi Leon Fram will address the Toledo Institute on "Win
the War—Win the Peace," sponsored by the Church Peace Union,
on Armistice Day, Nov. 11. He will speak on the subject. "The
Voice of Judaism on Religion, the War and a Permanent Peace."

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Miller of Griggs Ave. entertained 25
guests at a surprise party in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Schwartz
of Waverly Ave. on their 10th wedding anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Greenberg of Fullerton Ave. were hosts
to a family party honoring Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Faudem and
daughter, Joan, of LanSing, Mich., who are leaving to make their
home in Los Angeles, Calif. Others who entertained for them were
Mr. and Mrs. K. Faudem and Mrs. and Mrs.. J. Faudem.

Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Lazar of Sturtevant Ave. have received
word that their sons, Capt. M. R. Lazar and Sgt. Howard S. Lazar,
are both stationed somewhere in the South Pacific.

Miss Zelma Rosenthal has moved from Gladstone Ave. and is
now residing in the Belcrest Hotel.

Capt. Lewis B. Daniels has been visiting with Mrs. Daniels and
their daughter, Lois, of Warrington Rd., before leaving for his post.

Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hartman of Broadstreet Ave. were hosts
to a group of their friends at a dinner' party at the Statler Hotel
last Wednesday evening.

Center Opens Music
Program Monday

The music department of the
Jewish Community Center will
open' a series of music apprecia-
tion programs starting Monday,
at 8:15 p. m. Mary Carrick will
be the first guest music-com-
mentator. Her topic will be:
"South-American Music." Rec-
ords will be played, with ex-
planations by the guest leader.
Julius Chajes; director of mu-

Center, will lead the group in
choral singing.

CENTER CHARM SERIES
Thirty-five young women have
enrolled for the Charm Series
held each Wednesday at 8:30
p. in., in the Music Room at the
Jewish Center. Mrs, Elizabeth
Youngjohn of the Speech De-
partment at Wayne University
will talk on "Speech and Poise"
at the meeting Nov. 10. The
course is open to Center mem-
bers, with a nominal charge for
non-members.

HEALTH SERVICES ADDED
TO WOMEN'S PROGRAM
Many sub-seniors and seniors
have already responded to the
new health services recently
added to the women's physical
education - program on Tuesday
and Thursday evenings at the
Jewish Center. Under the new
program sub - senior and senior
members may now take health
service treatment consisting of a
half hour massage, sun lamp and
electric heat cabinet. Two com-
petent masseuses are in charge
of massage tables from 7 to 10:30
p. m. on these evenings. Appoint-
ments for this service must be
made in advance.

SENIOR DRAMATIC GROUP
Under the direction of a dra-
matic committee composed of
Reva Reichman, Alice Mandell
and Myron Ritter, with Harry
Goldstein as consultant, plans for
a senior dramatic group are be-
ing formulated. The group will
prepare dramatic presentations
to be given at the Center.

DANCING CLASSES
Registrations are now being
taken for an elementary eight-
week class in Fox Trot and Waltz
to begin Wednesday evening at
the Jewish Center. Barbara
Chase will be the instructor.
At present, an eight - week
term of Rhumba and Samba les-
sons is in progress. New classes
will be started from time to tirrie
in both categories. Miss Chase
also will arrange for small group
lessons and private lessons.

HOME ECONOMICS CLASS
A course in elementary cook-
ing and household management
is scheduled to begin next
Wednesday at 7:30 p. in., in the
kitchen of the Jewish Commu-
nity Center. Home economists
will instruct participants in meal
planning, using foods that re-
quire little or no .ration points.
Since the class will be limited,
those interested should register
immediately with Miss Matilda
Segal, Madison 8400.
