NEWS OF INTEREST TO WOMEN
ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY
Miss Estelle Alpern of the Belcrest Hotel has returned from a
week's stay in New York City.
Mrs. Leonard Levin has returned to her home in Newtonville,
Mass., after a few weeks' visit with her brother-in-law and sister,
Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Klein.
Mr. and Mrs. Julian Zemon of Wildemere Ave. left on Tuesday
to spend a week in New York City.
Among those who left on Sunday for Ann Arbor to matriculate
at the University of Michigan were Miss Shirley Simons, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Simons of Muirland Ave., and Miss Shirley
Frank, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Frank of Wildemere Ave.
Mrs. Nathan Schlafer of the Lee Plaza Apt. has returned from
Tuscon, Ariz., where she visited her sister, Mrs. Max Fisher.
Mrs. Irving Oberfelder of Canterbury Rd. is expected home this
Friday from a few weeks' visit in New York City and Philadelphia.
Mr. Oberfelder, who accompanied her, returned last week.
Major Harry August has been transferred from Fort Benjamin
Harrison, Ind., and is now stationed at Camp Blanding, Fla..
Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Schiller of Glynn Ct. spent the last week-
end in Chicago.
Ben Rosenberg and Arnold Lichenstein have returned to their
home in 1VIcKeesport, Pa., after a few days' visit with Mr. Rosen-
berg's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Josi4ph Hartman of
Chicago Blvd.
Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Shetzer of Longfellow Ave. left last Sunday
for New York City, where they are visiting their son-in-law and
daughter, Ensign and Mrs. Jacob Keidan.
Miss Edith Miller of Calvert Ave. spent the last week-end in
Chicago, where she attended the wedding of her cousin.
Seaman 1st Class Richard Thal has returned to Kalamazoo,
where he is attending the Western Naval Training School, after a
six-day leave spent with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Thal of
Glynn Ct.
Mrs. Max Krell of the Lee Plaza Apt. has been visiting with her
family in New York City.
Chaplain and Mrs. Albert Gordon have returned to New Jersey,
where Chaplain Gordon is stationed after a few days' visit with
their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Abe Gordon of Webb Ave.
Mrs. Abraham Glazer of Merton Rd. is visiting her son-in-law
and daughter, Major and Mrs. Maurice P. Meyers in Lawton, Okla.
Mr. and Mrs. Max Hirsch of Grand Ave. have as their guests .
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Rader of Los Angeles, Calif.
Pvt. Warren Greenstone, who left a short time ago for Camp
Custer, has been transferred to Camp Blanding, Fla.
Mrs. Benjamin Laikin of Euclid Ave. has returned from Balti-
more, where she visited with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Stanley Wilkins.
Mrs. Philip Gordon of Calvert Ave. has left for Miami Beach,
Fla., where she expects to spend the winter months.
Staff Sgt. and Mrs. Philip M. Fisher have returned to Harring-
ton, Kansas, where Sgt. Fisher is stationed, after a few days' visit
with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fisher of Buena Vista Ave.
and Mr. and Mrs. Irving Golden of Boston Blvd. Their brother,
Yeoman 1st Class Frederick J. Fisher, who arrived on a few days'
leave before they left, has also returned to his post.
Mr. and Mrs. M. Frank of Bedford Rd. were hosts to a group
of their friends at a supper party at their home last Sunday night.
Mrs. Milton J. Elson of W. Boston Blvd. returned home after
visiting her brother-in-law and sister, Lt. and Mrs. Don H.
Robert, who are stationed at Madison, Wis.
Dr. and Mrs. Albert E. Bernstein of 2400 W. Boston Blvd.
are guests in Chicago where they attended the Inter-State Medical
Convention, Oct. 25-29.
Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin A. Rossin and children, Anita and
Buddy, formerly of 2938 Fullerton Ave., are now residing at 533
S. 7th St., Ann Arbor, Mich.
Miss Genevieve Garinek has left for an extended stay in Los
Angeles.
Capt. and Mrs. Michael M. Levin, who are now residing in
Hattiesburg, Miss., entertained several fellow-Detroiters in the
past tv.ro months. Among them were Privates David Horowitz and
Hy Stein, who are attending classes at Mississippi Southern Col-
lege; Mrs. Miriam Korotkin Stein, now visiting her husband; Pvt.
Ted Fox, stationed with the Air Corps at Alexandria, La., and
Mrs. Sid Michalowitz (Minerva Federman).
Melvin Davidson, son of Mrs. Saul Davidson of Boston Blvd.,
has entered the University of Michigan.
Dr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Jacobs of Lawrence Ave., are in Chi-
cago. While there Dr. Jacobs will attend the conference and also
appear on the program of the Pedic Research Society.
Miss Eveleen Ethel Budnitzky of Webb Ave. has entered the
University of Michigan as a freshman.
Mrs. Oscar Bank entertained on Oct. 17 at a luncheon for 14
guests in honor of Mrs. Nat Edilberg (Evelyn Shapiro) of Flint.
Mrs. Louis Shapiro, Mrs. Edilberg's mother, came from Flint for
the occasion.
S/Sgt. Harry Banks was in Detroit on furlough from Miami
Beach, Fla. He was entertained here at several parties by relatives
and friends. A dinner in his honor was given by his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Hymen Banks.

to help devise a good inter-racial
recreational and war service

the recent race riots, the Youth

quency and the kind of recrea-
tional program young people
want.

Louis Fischer, prominent jour-
nalist and author, will be the
guest speaker at the Temple Beth
El Sisterhood meeting, Nov. 8, at
2 p. in., in the Brown Memorial
Chapel:
Mr. Fischer, a contributing edi-
tor of The Nation, has been a
roving correspondent in Russia,
Spain, France and England for
the past 20 years, and has recent-
ly completed a tour of India,
Egypt, Palestine and Irak. He'
was the house guest of Mahat-
ma Ghandi for a week.
The public is invited to hear
Mr. Fischer's lecture and analysis
of the war. A dessert luncheon
will be served prior to the meet-
ing.
